Study Break...

This blog is taking a vacation for about two weeks. It's owner has managed to live through the exam period and is now gonna go wild across the ocean. NY here I come. As of 18.10 this evening America is one EastGerman-Icelandic penguin richer. I probably shouldn't mention my identity confusion at customs :)

I might check in every now and again and see if the stress hasn't killed you yet!
Have a greta week everybody!

So I turned 30...

(picture curtesy of BoboJoel with MY camera!)

I have to say I love this life. It seems to get better every year and I think it is partly due to the fact that we discover more and more about ourselves and become at ease with the person we are. Don't get me wrong, life still scares the bejesus out of me sometimes, but it always seems to be worth the turmoil in the end.

My 30th was not scary and celebrated in three different countries. Germany, Iceland and the US. Yes, I got style! I met some amazing people, had a lot of laughs, many a present and there was chocolate. What more can a girl ask for? Well, I really would like to have my own castle...but I have strict confidence that I´ll make it to 40. *winks pathetically at everybody*

So here are some images that made this birthday ever so special:

(picture curtesy of Neva aka puppytoes without her glasses!)

Isn't he just the cutest?

(picture curtesy: well, this one´s got my flippers all over it!)

I went to PEZylvania and had me some chocolate. Maybe some more, too! Look at those beautiful Hershey-Kisses street lights. Some amazing people live there too, I forget their names now...there are also powder rooms. It´s nothing to do with anything, but it is important to some. Believe you me!

(Picture curtesy: Neva with glasses, but look at me waving!)

Boston Common. Such a wonderful place to just hang. And hang I did...from various statues, not that I´d be willing to demonstrate my imaturiy on my 30th birthday post, but to let your soul dangle for a moment is one of my favorite past times.

(Minkastyle!)

I love the water, and the Charles River in Boston is somewhere I can't wait to return to. If you are ever up for a walk along the Esplanade, lemme know! Bring chocolate though! dark chocolate...where was I? Oh yes...

(Pez feet, curmudgeon foot and one freshly pedicured foot snapped by me!)

Whoever started this tradition, it´s a grand one. I love the foot pictures going around and let me be the one to tell you that some people are well worth walking the extra mile for.

Oh and if you missed me so much that these few words are not nearly enough to make up for the time we spent apart, I have a few more words over at the SNARK!

Ok folks...

In less than four hours I´ll be on an airplane to Germany. I´ll stay for two weeks and return to Iceland and this blog on the 17th of July.

Which also happens to be my 30th BIRTHDAY. I expect you all here to sing with me -in true Penguin style- "Freeze a jolly good fellow". If you feel like giving me a gift ... when it comes to music we like SEAL and please, don't give me a vacation to Britain, I am scared of Wales! So be generous with your comments, spread the love and don´t blog anything important while I am away!

Impressions of America...

ok, to protect the privacy of my blogger friends, I have chosen not to post any pictures of an entire human being, besides myself. If you feel left out, particularly pretty or just have that bit of a dare-devil within; let me know and a picture of you in your Pj´s with peanut butter all over your face can be added with little trouble and a mischievous grin :)

The East Coast

At home in Connecticut. XOX

Sar, Neva, Joel, G, Mr. Scissors and I enjoyed this concert so much. And yes, the blue spot on my face would be the mark of a blue man;) Nothing like up close and personal :)

Feet. As close as I can go to disclosing blogger identities. Bloggers are very shy!

Skyscrapers. Also happens to be one of the first words I learned in the English language. If I spelled it wrong, keep it to yourself, please! They still wow me!

I have a weird thing for pictures that aren´t quite what they were supposed to be, but have that little something...to my untrained eye!

Mexican food! Zero brainy points to figure out where I had that. Oh...I´d walk another mile for a Quesidilla with sour cream on top. Lots of it!

Not yet permission to publish, but I hope it is ok...one of my favourite Moa pieces!

A cake for Minka made by Moa. She made me cry! See that little penguin on the East Coast of the States all the way from Iceland? Look again, will ye?!

Lo and Behold: Lower Manhattan!

I rode full force into Manhattan and grapped it by its horns. Held a little speech for tourists arriving and starring at me and dismounted, only to be imitated, as many a tourist-with a sudden riddance of shyness- climbed the bull as well!(picture curtesy of our very own lampshade G!)

Just because I think this is a wonderful picture and well, it´s a bird in it!

No words needed!

Herbert Schmidt. Location? Al would know!

Brooklyn Bridge/New York.

Broadway/Time Square New York. I went and saw a musical there. Lion King. Go see it!

California:

The obligatory and always fun blogger-foot picture. Willie wanted to get his paws on that one too. (picture with permission of parent and a slight modelling fee!)

Picture curtesy of our very own canine Kyahgirl.

Nothing says California to me more than a palm tree. I got to prune one too, with a machete. Impressive, I know!

Disneyland here I come!

Trees! Did you know that fruits grow on trees? In MARCH???

Where´s Minka?

Mulholland Drive at night in direction of San Fernando Valley.

Abandoned houses in the Mojave Desert!

I love mountains and these will be imprinted majestically on my mind!

So...I hope you like and thank you to all those wonderful people, who made this trip the wonder it has been. You know who you are!

*counts with fingers* 11 blogger buddies in two weeks. That´s what I call brilliant!

The West Coast

Yep, I am in California and have a mighty sunburn to prove it. Love it! Did you know that you can use Aloe vera plants, slice them up real nice and use the disgusting, sticky fluid inside to soothe your pain. That's just nifty!
*does a little Schwarzenegger imitation to set the mood, German acccent and all!*
Now everybody that as told you Nevada and California are two seperate States, they were lying. It's all desert here, with an odd palm tree stuck here and there to maintain the illusion of habitat. Throw in Utah while we are at it! And street names like Honeysuckle Road and Snowdrop Avenue make me laugh. I am easily amused!

Now if you go to California you have to meet up with the Waking Ambrose dude. He is every bit as sour as he claims but lights up like a little puppy when you give him good definitions in the mornings before he lets you have your breakfast. He likes fishing and golfing and walks around on all four. To hear him howl at friggin' 4 in the morning sure is traumatizing endearing! You'd think I was kidding, but come and see for yourself. He enjoys having guests over, really! *snickers*

Now Kyahgirl is a whole different tale. She sure loves wearing her catwomen suit and enjoys late-night parties and loud music between sunset and sunrise. At one point she joined some teenage kids late at night outside on the street and riled up the whole neighborhood with her singing and dancing and chanting. Kyahgirl will deny all this and claim that she walks in her sleep. She also taught us the Candian national anthem, high pitched and everything... only Willie and Walela could hear and repeat it.

and also: I like palm trees!

America

That's right. The Penguin has made it over. The East Coast will never be the same. I felt right at home. Snow, freezing temperatures and walking coats all over the place; for a second I thought the plane had made a circle and brought me back to my tiny island.

But I am in America, the toilets gave it away. Yes, the toilets! Now explain this to me and do speak slow: Why do you need a swimming pool in your toilets? I am worried that I'll make it overflow each time I have a full bladder. I know all restrooms in the Connecticut area by now!

I have squeezed some other stuff in between toilet breaks though.

Spending time and laughs with Joel, Neva and our lampshade. You do the math! But it involved dogs, Mexican food, Starbucks and the odd ADD conversation I am still trying to organize . Everything you have heard is true. Neva is tall, dark and has a rugged handsomeness about her. G is continiously checking out light bulbs and Joel, well constantly files applications for golf resort memberships.

The Belle of the Brawl flew in during her Spring break. Whohoooo! You'll be glad to learn that we did share a hotel room together and life webcam recordings can be purchased at youneedhelp@freak.com! She is as spunky, funny and amazing as I knew she would be and Sar: Thank You!

I went to a Blue Man concert in Manhattan and had such a fun time. They got up close and personal too, nice physique and well, I left the theatre with a blue mark on the left side of my face. The works of a Blue Man. But not to worry, I can pull off blue quite well!

I got to meet the wonderful and delightful Moa and took the grand tour through her fabulous and artistic home. I specifically had a passion for her handmade marzipan sculptures. She is just the sweetest soul and here is cheers to Heineken too.

Today Al showed us downtown Manhattan. Now he is just gonna love me for this, but whenever you are in New York, go bugger him about a tour...he does is well, knows his stuff and *whispers* didn't ask for any of those really confusing local currency papers;) Besides, his red/green Mohawk sticks out and if you get lost amongst the huge crowd, he is an easy visual marker, if you don't mind the Japanese tourist taking pictures of him all the time.

excuse me...I have to use the bathroom!
