Impressions of America...

ok, to protect the privacy of my blogger friends, I have chosen not to post any pictures of an entire human being, besides myself. If you feel left out, particularly pretty or just have that bit of a dare-devil within; let me know and a picture of you in your Pj´s with peanut butter all over your face can be added with little trouble and a mischievous grin :)

The East Coast

At home in Connecticut. XOX

Sar, Neva, Joel, G, Mr. Scissors and I enjoyed this concert so much. And yes, the blue spot on my face would be the mark of a blue man;) Nothing like up close and personal :)

Feet. As close as I can go to disclosing blogger identities. Bloggers are very shy!

Skyscrapers. Also happens to be one of the first words I learned in the English language. If I spelled it wrong, keep it to yourself, please! They still wow me!

I have a weird thing for pictures that aren´t quite what they were supposed to be, but have that little something...to my untrained eye!

Mexican food! Zero brainy points to figure out where I had that. Oh...I´d walk another mile for a Quesidilla with sour cream on top. Lots of it!

Not yet permission to publish, but I hope it is ok...one of my favourite Moa pieces!

A cake for Minka made by Moa. She made me cry! See that little penguin on the East Coast of the States all the way from Iceland? Look again, will ye?!

Lo and Behold: Lower Manhattan!

I rode full force into Manhattan and grapped it by its horns. Held a little speech for tourists arriving and starring at me and dismounted, only to be imitated, as many a tourist-with a sudden riddance of shyness- climbed the bull as well!(picture curtesy of our very own lampshade G!)

Just because I think this is a wonderful picture and well, it´s a bird in it!

No words needed!

Herbert Schmidt. Location? Al would know!

Brooklyn Bridge/New York.

Broadway/Time Square New York. I went and saw a musical there. Lion King. Go see it!

California:

The obligatory and always fun blogger-foot picture. Willie wanted to get his paws on that one too. (picture with permission of parent and a slight modelling fee!)

Picture curtesy of our very own canine Kyahgirl.

Nothing says California to me more than a palm tree. I got to prune one too, with a machete. Impressive, I know!

Disneyland here I come!

Trees! Did you know that fruits grow on trees? In MARCH???

Where´s Minka?

Mulholland Drive at night in direction of San Fernando Valley.

Abandoned houses in the Mojave Desert!

I love mountains and these will be imprinted majestically on my mind!

So...I hope you like and thank you to all those wonderful people, who made this trip the wonder it has been. You know who you are!

*counts with fingers* 11 blogger buddies in two weeks. That´s what I call brilliant!

Some of those places seem familiar somehow. Great photography, especially on the ones you're in.

Whoops, you added New York. Those are great photos. I see Neva had you over a barrel. Or was it Al?

Beautiful pics sweet friend! I WANNA SEE MORE! But hopefully some day soon I will get to be in a bunch with you in SF!!!! *sigh* Bohemians can only dream!

It looks like you had a fabulous time and I am so happy to know that that was indeed the case! And how fabulous to have gotten to see Móa's artwork up close and personal! That must have been a magical experience!

Glad to have you back in the blogosphere! Muchos besos always...

Doug: The ones I am in? You mean to complement yourself? And Doug, they made me pull all sorts of stunts for pictures. Shy that I am, I just obeyed. really!

kyahgirl: few things make me cry...but that was one. I am glad you were part for a least a little of my journey. Eyeore mugs are great!

Miz B:Oh you will, one day. This was not my first, nor will it be my last trip to the US! And right back at ye!

Beautiful post. Thanks for sharing it all with us.

Minka, of course I did. And Neva. Is your story that I made you not let go of that palm tree? I have to wow for Mo'a.

ooooo
LOVELY pictures.
Looks like a great time.
11 bloggers in two weeks??
That has got to be some kind of record.

i'll second Doug's "wow" and raise him another. WOW! for that's what these pictures are, my friend! well, maybe not so much the inside of our family room -- tho' that one i took of you on the couch with our dogs, lovely tiara in hand, is completely adorable -- but your shots of buildings/bridges (one or two i remember you taking from inside the car, and they turned out great!) and/or land/water scapes are terrific! Al did, indeed, have you over a barrel. rather on top of one! lovelovelove that silhouette of you with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. and your pic of Herbert turned out even better than i imagined it would (i believe i got a couple of cute shots of you and Al alongside your new boyfriend -- which i'm hoping to see, eventually, if not here, maybe in an email??)

back to Doug's "wow" for a second: for any doubters in the crowd, i can attest to the fact that you cried when Mo'a (fabulous/beautiful Mo'a) brought out that amazing/clever cake following the wonderful meal she'd prepared. trust me folks, it's good to travel with teh Penguin -- folks treat her like the queen she is, as well as those lucky enough to be tagging along! ; )

and Willie looks even sweeter than you described him to be (didn't think that was possible). that picture of you with the mountains in the background is probably my favorite -- it's a perfect shot of a perfect girl in a perfectly spectacular setting.

well done, my friend -- and thanks for these reminders of how much fun it was to have you here! i CANNOT WAIT for your return! i promise you'll have more shots of Connecticut to share than those taken from the inside of my house and/or on top of your first plate full of Mexican take-out! xoxox

Fantastic pictoral!

Just one thing...very minor really, but Sophie feels a bit slighted that she is in the background while BoBo appears in the foreground. She reminds that she, like you, is royalty (a princess in this household) and deserves to be treated accordingly. No bigee but I would watch my toes when you return...she tends to hold a grudge.

Otherwise...excellent!

At 16:47, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ps: "where's Minka"? hah! to click on the pictures and enlarge, is to see YOU perched on the limb of that very large, very lovely tree. (i just knew you had to be up there... somewhere) ; ) xoxox

At 16:49, Blogger Minka said...

TLP, mine is teh pleasure and I sure do hope that at some point a Pez Foot will grace one of my pictures ;)

Doug, yep...that´s my story and I am sticking to it. Otherwise people´d think I am weird or something.

LOgo, it must be...I would like to know where to collect my prize. Ring is still greenish/blue today and such a conversation piece. I love it!;)

Neva, Thank you...I have many a great picture left and am working on an e-mail to you with some of my favourites. I miss America and all you guys...I felt so special every day. A greater gift can not be imagined right now! xox

Joel, maybe you can wisper in her ear that Neva took the picture and chose the angle. But some of us royality know how unique and extraordinary we are, that sometimes even a background makes us shine! Do yo think a steak would help?

At 16:51, Blogger Minka said...

neva, yes :) Isn´t it brilliant. My old ones at work loved that today...they couldn´t believe trees get that big, but totally appreciated the Minkaism on finding me on that tree. If I remember correctly it is a giant Fig Tree in Santa Barbara. Anybody?

At 17:08, Blogger Doug The Una said...

Minka, as I remember it that is the "International Children's Peace, Love and Understanding Fig Tree," dedicated on John Lennon's birthday some year in the 80s. A strange name, but not as strange as the fruit.

At 23:31, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Minka -- looks like you had a lovely time. From all the stories I've heard, America has yet to recover. That is one awesome cake. I hope your tears didn't smear the frosting!

At 05:02, Blogger G said...

No Quilly, not to worry, no cake was damaged in the tears...we swipedd it out from under her.

Ahh, dear Penguin, this is a beautiful and perfect pictorial of your trip. 11 bloggers in two weeks has got to be a record. Did I mention that Neva's fingers are still curved as if they're wrapped around a steering wheel? She's doing special exercises and she should be healed by your next visit.

Anyway, I loved these pics, had a great visit with you and look forward to a return visit. By the way, I will send some pics very soon. xox

At 13:47, Blogger Minka said...

Doug, with practice you might still make a good guide :) Thank you!

Quilly, well...I have faith in America. It should be fine, give or take two years :)

G, absolutely and I can already smell BBQ food :)

At 14:53, Blogger Christine said...

Although you think CA when you see Palm Trees, the truth is that only one type of palm tree is natural to the state and none from Southern CA. Just some useless knowledge for ya on this Monday.

At 14:57, Blogger Minka said...

Christine, this is so funny. I was actually introduced to that fact when in California and I thought it was so funny. In my defense, I was born in 1977 and hence the palm tree had been firmly established in all its splendour and variety on that favourite West Coast of mine. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it :) ( I have since googled on this subject...we live and learn I guess!)
and also: this is your first time here, I believe. Welcome to my royal abode :)

At 15:34, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So, I have to go back and find you peched on that tree- the sun was shining in my eyes. And, you dind´t EAT this wonderful lovely cake, did you? What a superb idea! Thanks for finally showing your pictures. I have been walking twice around a golfcourse with daddy and could clap to his extraordinary perfomance. If I find my password I will put a pic of him in my blog. Don´t miss us too much, mom will be home soon.

At 15:47, Blogger Minka said...

HI MOM! *waves*
I miss you guys so much. It is weird being a lone at home after a trip and teh only person going through here every now and again is the plumbing guy restoring my bathroom. That´s just not right!

At 23:40, Blogger Jamie Dawn said...

Amazing journey in pictures!
You look like you enjoyed yourself.
You are such a cutie!

What a joy is was to read and SEE this marvelous post. I am so happy you made a trip to the USA and got to see so many blog buddies.

That cake is great, and I bet it was tasty too!
It looks almost too gorgeous to eat, but I'm sure it got eaten anyway. :)

We saw the Blue Man group when we were in Las Vegas. None of us ended up with a blue smudge like you did.

At 01:39, Blogger Alana said...

That cake is so lovely, I don't blame you for crying! Fantastic photos...you captured both coasts perfectly...and yeah, I was gonna mention about the palm trees not being native to So. Cal., but I thought I'd refrain from ruining it for you. Looks like someone else already took care of that though.

At 01:40, Blogger Alana said...

...and I hadn't even noticed that you had eleven fingers. cool.

At 02:29, Blogger Minka said...

Jamie Dawn, it certainly was the best trip ever. I still hardly fathom my blessings. I met so many amazing people, I can´t wait to get back and flung myself into their arms and take them out for Starbucks :)

Square, yep I knew that tale already when in California. Doug´s dad mentioned it I think and 11 fingers?

At 03:25, Anonymous Anonymous said...

WOOHOO! i knew you'd eventually post one or two more pictures, and i hoped they be the ones of you sitting on top of that bull! poor Al... i'm not sure he's recovered yet from the shock of seeing you perched between those horns and/or of Gina and I helping to hoist you up in the first place!

as for Starbucks? trust me, that place won't be the same until you DO come back, dear girl (nor will dear sweet delusional Larry, for that matter) so make it snappy! (sorry, Biene, but we have fallen in love with your girl -- we won't steal her away, but we'd lovelovelove to "borrow" her a bit longer, if you don't mind!) xox

At 12:24, Blogger I Dive At Night said...

Hi Minka, great pics!

Is there a connection between all the talk of Starbucks and all the pictures of you running up trees and statues and whatnot?

Morgan

At 13:30, Blogger Miz BoheMia said...

Wait! Are there new pics up? I swear a bunch of them were not there when I first made it in here! Dios mio! Am I going cuckoo living here in España! Say it ain't so!!! ;-P

I LOVE the new pics and the fact that we get to see more of you! The bull thing had me laughing as recently I got caught getting stared at for sitting on the lap of a statue of Hans Christian Andersen while making quite a bit of noise with the lil bohemians egging me on! Methinks we shall have good times once we meet up my friend!

I owe you an email so be on the lookout! Had to pop in for a quick hola and muchos besos and to tell you to give us EVEN MORE PICTURES!

Bwahahahahahaaaa! I am greedy yes indeedy!

You have my permission...you did a good job photographing "The Awakening" next time come when there is no danger of snow...Paloma is still mad at me :(
It was such a pleasure to have you, G and Neva come for a visit...sorry to hear what happened to Neva's hands.
I loved decorating the cake for you...did anyone notice that Iceland and the US are the same size...it is the Icelander in me that did that...I hold them both with equal importance.
I am so glad the took good care of you on the West Coast...11 bloggers I wonder if that is a record for one trip...not counting blogger seminars/meetings...this was personal blogger friends...has to be a record :)
See you in a month...in Iceland.

At 14:58, Blogger Minka said...

Morgan, nothing what-so-ever. I am just weird like that:) I might quite an exhibit of myself on the East Coast, but all in good fun. A bull in the middle of a major city, scream "Jump on it, pull the reigns and take it by the horns" to me.

Miz B, yes new pictures get added all teh time. We have been sending back and forth new shots and as such I felt obloged and pleased to add to my own selection. And sweetie, there will be no doubt that whenever we meet up we´ll be the centre of unknown people´s attention everywhere. We both can let lose and be silly, if sentiments so demand :)

Moa, yes I will see you in a month. And we had the most wonderful time with you adn I am sure Neva does not mind her mishapen claws, she knows it was for a good cause ;)

At 15:11, Blogger G said...

"Claws for the Cause" - a new campaign in your honor :)

Just dropped in to see the new pics - you on the bull was the missing piece of the puzzle I must say. Okay, now I'm off to clean - what a way to spend my days off, but I allowed a little sidetrack time. TTFN. xox

geez, Monika, I'm, just realizing I've been here many times and enjoyed the pictures a lot, and have never left a comment... please forgive for socially retatarded me, I really am!

those are cheering pictures! mine faves are the one of the tree you climbed because that is one real good way to get familiar with a new place, and the one of you under the Blue Moon poster because that is a heartwarming portrait of a young woman as sweet as sexy, and the one with the Brooklyn Bridge because you remind of agent Scully in that long coat. glad you had a great time and all your flights were safe, and thank you for sharing pictures!

At 17:31, Blogger Minka said...

G, abbrevations kill me sometimes :) TTFN? And thank you so much for my bull picture, I am very fond of them!

ariel, when I arrived in NY on teh 16th...250 flights within teh US were cancelled, becuase of a snowstorm...teh little plane from Icleand made it. We are a tough bunch and I had teh most terrific time!
