Travel in your mind...

and you shall journey further than possibility. You can quote me on that! :)
Now, since I have been a little on the weak side- the Force has not been with me of late!- three days strict bed-rest sounded horrible from the get go.
Fever, sweating and a sore throat invites long posts about phlegm and phlegm alone! I thought I shouldn't infect you any more than I already have and instead ventured back to a journey I had a couple of days ago when I came back from America. Come join me!

I know you can see pictures of Gullfoss and Geysir by just simply checking in with google, but you came here...now didn't you?!

Strokkur. Geysir stopped a while back to have the hiccups, so now our tourists gather around this fine varient of a hot spring. He spits very high and whenever he feels like it. Soemtimes he'll splash you before you know it, believe you me! The water smells like old egg shells. It's ...hmmm...special!

Icelandic hot-spring area. Old Geysir still fuming!

10 minutes from Geysir is Gullfoss, the golden waterfall. It is quite breath-taking. And although I have seen it dozens of times, every time is magical in a different way, setting and mood.

Ok, so I might have climbed over the ropes to get closer to the waterfall, but I needed a picture of my hat in front of Gullfoss. Yes, from now on Minka comes with a hat! Besides, I was showing the sights to five young Germans and I was tired of holding that little flag up for them to follow me, I am easier to spot with the hat ;)

My friend Lotte and a friend of hers visiting from Germany. I think they liked what they saw. Nothing quite inspires to contemplating your thoughts like cascading water. Besides, you can play a little dare devil game with your bladder! ;)

Seljalandsfoss. One of my favorite waterfalls in Iceland, you can climb behind it and feel the ice-cold water tickle your skin.

Ok, that was a water-filled day and I feel like I have been out and about. Back to bed :) Thanks for coming along!

I LOVED the pictures and the tour and the info... you know what this means to me... Iceland sings to me and I have a great need to make it on over to see it for myself and meet the family I still have there.

Before moving away, my grandma showed me pictures from back in the day when she and my grandfather journeyed back home to Iceland to visit family and the typical Icelandic houses (yep, the hobbit homes!) were in some shots since some of our family have homes like that... or had, I no longer know. But it made me think of you!

So gracias for yet another beautiful post and feel better soon!!!! Email me if you wish for me to give you the recipe of a nice natural concoction that is quite the phlegm killer! I take it religiously whenever I come down with anything...

Besos and mucho love from San Francisco (which awaits you with open arms as do I!)...

Wonderful scenery and I enjoyed the post. You are intimidating in shades and so is anyone who can segue from phlegm to geyser.

Excellent tour Penguin. Hope you are feeling better. Nice hat!

Beautiful pics! But Doug, I've been to Geysir. Discussing health then the smells of Geysir isn't a segue, it sounds like the Penguin is quite ill.
I hope you're well soon. :-)

Miz B: yes you are and what a beautiful sight to behold. You would like Iceland, I think. It appeals to one's calmer nature and makes you reflect. Outside of Reykjavik, that is!
Saw your fab videos from SF, you really made it...I am so happy for you!

Doug,*bows* I am just that good.

Morgan, rotten eggs is an aquired taste, isn't it? After living here for a year though...you hardly smell it anymore. Don't you think!

Ahem...ahem...over here...the invisible one. Should I feel slighted or is it the fever?

what a landscape! I recognised the rainbow in the waterfall picture.

I am told Icelandic water is good to the skin. :-)

At 09:17, Blogger Minka said...

JOEL!!!!!!!! There you are...I am sorry, I didn't recognize you in...those pants!

ariel, Icelandic water is really pure and clean and makes for excellent drinkign water. Everything you have heard is true. I guess the extra rotten egg smell kills the really tough bacteria right off you :)

Wow! I somehow feel refreshed. I am definitely going to have to come over someday and see those lovely sights, (and of course visit the penis mall while I'm there). Hope you're feeling better. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll just toddle off to the bathroom for a moment....

oh my, such MAGNIFICENT pictures! good to see your fun and/or frolicking didn't immediately stop once you returned to that happy island you call home!

as for you in that hat? pretty damn ADORABLE, missy! thinkin' you and i are looking more 'n more like mother/daughter (auntie/niece? older sis/younger sis???) every day! (not that i'm adorable, mind you) ; )

now GET back to bed and GET WELL, sweet penguin! some of us need to know you're getting better, even as we struggle to finish off our own antibiotics. (sigh)

A lovely tour and I do hope your head and throat and such are feeling better.
I don't think I want any special, stinky geyser sauce on me, eow

Hope you feel better soon.

That's amazing landscape. And Google has nothing on your pictures and info.

At 14:32, Blogger Mo'a said...

Do I need to tell you how I love those photos?
You look very cute and Neva like ;> in the photo by the waterfall...I was however, looking forward to seeing the haircut ;) Did you notice the face in the waterfall...the scary one, looking at you? The one with the one big ear?
Feel better soon.

Sorry you've been under the weather. Great pictures! Thanks for the journey.

Oh, I finally stopped playing with the phone and checked the pics in full size. Great hat!

Thanks for the pictures! I really feel what you are saying about the photos. It's just like I am standing in front of them while you are describing and I even smell the rodden eggs at Geysir .... not wrinkling my nose but saying "It would be nice to be there now at this moment ..." :-)
Gute Besserung Minka min!

I know a thing or two about traveling further than possibilities... looking at your pictures takes me back BOOM just like yesterday when I was standing there in front of Gullfoss, getting soaked in the mist while reveling in the unbound rocky ledge jutting out into the falls... waiting for the "bubble" at Stokkar to try and fail :*( to snap the picture just at the right moment... When my sweetie and I were at Seljalandsfoss, we had the place to ourselves because the weather was dreary I guess. The green is simply stunning. Ahhhh, you can take me back with your pictures any time :)

Feel better soon - being sick just sucks.

and PS: that boiled egg smell isn't so bad - I happen to like hard boiled eggs, and besides, the smell doesn't stick on you when you bathe.

Theresa, youa re always welcome and it would be a pleasur eto take you around. The penis mall would be our first stop!

neva, I am alreayd way better and the locks have been removed from my door...I am glad you like dthe pictures. Somehow I have to entice you to get over here one fine day!
Xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

logophile, it's an aquired taste :) And thank you!

goldennib, that was very sweet of you to say. I always feel that pictures you take yourself have more meaning, although they might not be quite as professional.

Móa, look again, there are at least two more :) They whispered secrets in my ear!

AP3, so when ar eyou coming? Although my virtual tours are nice, they are nothing compare dto the real thing! ;)

Morgan, I know how attached one gets to a nbew phone. The last time I got one was years ago. I can only imagine when I get a new one, to be locked in my room for a day and a half and stare at all those blinking buttons :)

Heike, hello my little muffin of love...we miss you, we can't wait for you to get back, Iceland is your home, too. And we don't mind sharing it with you!

terry, nono...youa re very clean after and there are worth smells iceland can conjure than rotten eggs :) Thank you for those lovely words. Since Seljalandsfoss is only 30 minutes away from our farm, I am there often and have seen him in all seasons, lights and darknesses...most magical when mist surrounds it. Beautiful!

At 22:10, Blogger Mo'a said...

Yes indeed there are...I was so worried about the one that had his evil eye on you.

At 22:33, Blogger robkroese said...

Cool pics. That eggshell smell is sulfur, btw.

Also, I see asscrack on the girl on the left.

And no, I didn't make you an Adjutant Inspector by accident, silly girl.

At 23:07, Blogger Minka said...

actonbell, I am up to speed again (sort of) I am back at work and blogging, I'd say: fully recovered :)

M'oa, I know...he was gentler than his look though ;)

Diesel, why would you make someone silly an adjutant inspector? What does that say about you?
*grins*
*bows*

When is the crowning ceremony?

At 11:35, Anonymous Anonymous said...

perhaps we should send Diesel's wife one of those t-shirts you mentioned in the HILARIOUS POST YOU DID ON TEH SNARK today?? probably not... but his comment DID give me a grand excuse for promoting it! the post, that is, not the t-shirt, which is, as we know stupid... heh heh ; ) xox

At 12:35, Blogger Minka said...

Hi neva, maybe you would be so kind as to explaint o me the job description of an adjutant inspector. I don't mind having a title that involves no work, but if there is ...I kinda wanna check it out!

G'day Minka,

Enjoyed the pictures. Hope you're feeling better.

Cheers

I hope by now you are all well.
Being ill is... uh... sickening!
An over-abundance of phlegm is never a good thing.

What lovely sights!
The waterfalls are gorgeous!!
I'd love to see the geyser too, but the smell would not be pleasant.
Do you provide nose plugs with your tours?? I would most certainly need some.

At 10:49, Blogger Minka said...

David, I am fine...thank you!

Jamie, I find that people tend to find the smell more interesting than anything else, it is not that overwhelming and gives a certain texture to the air. But you can have nose plugs, if you like!
