It's Thor's day...

so I better get going with that trivia of mine, before a thunderbolt will struck me out of nowhere. In all seriousness, I think Gods like atheists: just so they have something to aim at!

anywho:

"Before beginning his musical career, he was an army veteran. During his life he played with Little Richard and the Isley Brothers before forming his own trio. At their American debut at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, he set his guitar on fire. At the age of 27 he died, leaving behind a musical legacy and a memorable rendition of the American national anthem."

You know the drill, off to the comment section with you and hint away at this week's amazing guest!

*looks expectantly at the sky*

There are times when mere Limericks,
And jokes from my bag of tricks
Just won't sufice
Cause a Voodoo Chld's vice
Is to reach from the grave with his licks.

i can almost imagine viewing this guy's face through a Purple Haze of some sort.

well done, foxy lady, well done! ; )

his incredible guitar playing was made even more miraculous by the fact that he was left-handed, and, as such, was forced to play his Fender Stratocaster upside down.

a musician must be not just experienced, but mightily talented to do such a thing. and this Woodstock legend did it better than most. (i'm a fan, can ya tell?) ; )

Uhhh Neva, you wanna leave one hint for me?

His being named #1 on most definitive Best Guitar Players lists is well deserved. Hmmm, what else? Well, I'm stone free to do what I please today so it pleases me to hit the road.

Have a great day! :)

Doug, I kinda knew you'd like this week's guest. your bag of tricks did it for me in this week's limerick's department. well done with the Voodoo child!

Neva, you know where I got my inspiration from, do you not?! Most of you know by now that my momentary residence is "Cupboard under the stairs, Connecticut" and on one of my 5 minutes outside I saw a CD entitled "Monterey Pop Festival" which made me think of today's guest. And you are absolutely right about him being left :) left handed that is!

G, Hit the road, G! and please do come back, in case you drive past us! He was an amazing guitarist, no question!

I know, I know this one...Brian had a big poster of him in his bedroom when he was a teenager...if that had not been the case, I would not have known.
Hense my little knowlege about him without tricks, such as googleing.

I was tryin' to jimmy the lock on my brain on this one. But it was too easy. He was amazing I was young at the time of Woodstock.

G, I agree with you about the answer you came after. The wind cried "Neva"

his talent was shining but I cannot stand it when people treat things the way he treated his guitars on stage. as good as I am in biographies, all I remember is what he said about one of his girlfriends: "she is my own Yoko Ono".

Moa, *travels back in time, sneaks into son's bedroom and looks at wall, comes back* Yep...that's him!

TLP, jimmying it up, helps sometimes :) Did it hurt! Were there matches involved?

Doug, you really wanna pull at that thread?

ariel, the power of being a genius really knocks the sense out of you :) It ain't easy being green, or musical for that matter!

This morning I stepped downstairs for the continental breakfast, grabbed a bite, and started back up the stairs when my friend said," Hey Mo, where you going with that bun in your hand?"

I'm so ashamed that I have not a single MP3 or CD of this, one of my two greatest guitar heros. Although I did have plenty of tapes and record albums years back.

Morgan, now that's just sad. There is a lovely CD store just down by the road;)

I'm late...but, you folks are REALLY late. This fellow was playing in MY time and most (if not all) of you weren't even born when he was ranting on stage.

I vaguely recall (I may be wrong) he was born on a farm and liked little animals, geese, ducks, especially hens and chicks...Judy

I'm saving my dollars for diving. But I met a guy who knows a guy who knows a place I might be able to find the Star Mangled Banner and a few others. Shhhh....

goldennib, which part? :)

I think which ever parts do not get along well with alcohol and drugs.

Yeah, like what's HUD spelled backwards?

It's on the tip of my tongue. Can't quite get it. Something like Rooster Drix? Nah, that's not it. I give up.

I had totally forgotten about his having been in the army. Can't imagine it. Maybe on a breezy evening, he wondered what the wind cried. While in the service, I wonder if he actually had to walk all along that really tall structure from which one keeps vigil?

Okay, I'm done!!!

goldennib, you are talking about his earlobes, aren't you?

gawpo, never said he did it well or long, and his supervisor did not like his attitude, yet still he was enrolled at some point!

Doug, Hase, Hase to you too. August is here!
