Yep, another one....

"Her name at birth was Emilie Charlotte, but earned a new name for her pale white skin. In the late 1800s, paintings and photos of her sold well, earning her many fans and lovers, most notably Prince Albert (King Edward VII). She toured England and the United States selling out playhouses, but failing to impress critics. Plays were written for her by Oscar Wilde and Whistler painted her."

Ok, off with you to the comment section and hint/limerick/snigger at this week´s featured guest. Who could it be?

and just because I can -this is my realm after all- here is the newest song by Take That. Now for those of you that are not into the above triva all that much, here is a more Minka related quiz: Which member of Take That decorated Minka´s wall at the age of 16???

And doesn´t that Mark Owen just remind you of a Penguin? I find that very attractive in a human being ;)

disclaimer: I never said the video was any good!

I'll need hints for both questions, but did want to congratulate you on the timeliness of your brain teaser.

Douglas, Douglas...*shakes head*. This week I wanted to be ahead of your teasing and obnoxiousness, although now I kinda miss it :)

Can't even do a limerick without knowing the answer. I'll study for next week.

ah... i don't know much about this woman, altho' her "nickname" (and subsequent stage name) is shared by my favorite "tiowed" character in the film Blazing Saddles! it also happens to be the name of a flower from her (your "mystery" woman's) birthplace, if i'm not mistaken...

cool brain teaser, my friend! fun to see it up so early, too! xoxox

hm i dunno know about the first brain teaser but considering I only know one name from Take That...I'm going to go with the now missing Robbie Williams. I mean...bad boy? Come on.

I don't know if I'm ready for a return of Take That.

A young lady called Le Breton
Was loved by a royal Briton
Did he sire Jeanne Marie?
Or was it Prince Louis?
With who did young Lillie get it on?

Doug, I have no doubt :) Does it hurt, is it painful? Not knowing, I mean!

Neva, her birthplace is Jersey in teh Channel Islands. I can´t see any connection to her name with that, although I have the feeling that you have the right person.

jenna, oddly enough it doesn not surprise me that you would go for teh bad guy :) BUt it wasn´t him. I am not ready for the return of Take That either, but I sure enjoy a laugh every now and again ;)

trundling grunt *claps*. well done and you limericked before our curmudgeon, that is so gonna annoy him secretly :) And from what I hear, we have no record of her admirers, but we know the list was extensive, including Oscar Wilde ;)

Her father was a pastor, and her grave stone is a bust of herself -- it adornes her grave in Saint Saviour, Jersey, the church where her father was rector.

the "flower" (and original nickname) is the Jersey **** (Amaryllis belladonna), which is what she's supposed to be holding in that picture. however the Jersey variety was not available, so they had to settle for ***ies from Guernsey. (just thought you'd like to know!)

she was also one of the first "celebrities" to endorse products, specifically soap and cosmetics (i'm guessing her lovely skin made her a logical choice) AND, she has an interesting connection to Judge Roy Bean of Texas, who nicknamed a saloon he "held court" in (in a town sharing her last name) after her, as an homage of sorts. xox

I have no idea who the chick is, but men who remind me of penguins remind me of The Penguin (batman) and that is not a good thing!

Is her last name a name of a tree?
Found in tropical climates and one place in Ireland?

At 11:51, Blogger Minka said...

Quilly, yep, yep and yep. Well done!

neva, I checked and youa re right. I had no idea Jersey was famous for lilies too. If I think of Jersey, I picture cows :) WEll done!

Doug, I am glad...I was worried over here :)

Birdwoman, That is sad for all the Penguins out there. I suggest re-adjusting the mental image...if I think of Penguins I see Mumble!

Móa, I am nto certain, but looking at it etomologically, Langtry is old english lang for Long and try for tree, so I wouldnæt be surprised at all. Where is that OC when you need him???

As a result of this the root cause of hemorrhoids development is
being eliminated. In less serious cases, the best solution will be
to increase the amount of fluid and fiber in the diet.
There was a lot of resistance from the public on the effectiveness of this system but Japanese scientists who came up with this idea were
unperturbed.
