Thursday Brain Teaser
"He made over 50 albums between his solo career and with his band, the Mothers of Invention, which contained all types of music from jazz to satires of rock and roll. He testified against censoring lyrics in rock, ran his own record company, and even went to Czechoslovakia to discuss Western trade with their president Vaclav Havel. His children are named Moon, Ahmet and Dweezil."
Those of you who stumbled through these blog posts of mine last year, know the drill! Those of you who are new...just HINT!!!!!!! at the right answer. Don´t just blurt things out!
For those of you without a clue (it is more common than you´d think!) answer any of these!:
Why do you have to "put your two cents in," but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"?
Shouldn't it be, "Some things in moderation"?
If women ran the Pentagon, would missiles and submarines be shaped differently?"
Now let´s get to the bottom of these things! Go on...

And Weasels Ripped My Flesh which is why he died in 1993. But he does have a statue in Vilnius doesn't he?
frankly i'm amazed i know this one!
(It's not letting me beta blog...sigh)
He wrote songs less rebellious than droll;
Played guitar more with wit than with soul;
Behind goatee and curls
He proved to the world
Curmudgeons can, too, rock n' roll.
The answer to the last question is: yes, they'd be square on the end from parking.
And, thanks for posting a trivia question. I feel lighter.
this is the guy who once said:
"Jazz is not dead...it just smells funny."
right?
i also lovelovelove the fact that "Dweezil" was the nickname he had for his wife's little toe -- i guess he liked her toe, since he named his son after it.
SOOOOOO happy to see a trivia question here -- suddenly, all is right with the world. or at least this little corner of it! (thanks for the laughs, too -- goodness knows i needed them today!) xox
"If women ran the Pentagon, would missiles and submarines be shaped differently?"
If those women dealt frankly with aero/hydrodynamic reality, they'd realize that missiles and submarines shaped any other way would be zapped by friction.
this is not a clue, but a little bit of useless info...one of his grandchildren goes to Pacific Oaks, a progressive school in Pasadena, as one of my clients is a classmate. It's a small, small world afterall...
Was he babtised another religion and then decided to convert to another?

Zap me with a spoon! Oh, wait, sorry, that's "gag" me ...
1. Ask for a loan. You'll find out.
2. So the lettuce and the bacon won't feel completely out of place.
3. Thoughts just aren't what they used to be.
4. That depends on who's moderating.
5. In the sky, Lord, in the sky ...
6. Um ... no. I've heard too much about cucumbers ...
trundling grunt, December 4th 1993 and yes there is a statue there! WEll done and first two *nods head in approval*
jenna, care to venture a hint, so I knows if you knows??? LOL
Doug, you always make me laug. I missed these little limericks of yours and your answer to the last quetsion did not come as a surprise. One day I´ll get there and I´ll park behind your car and show you that your theory is correct. Ups!
Neva, correct and he also said: "Stupidity has a certain charm-ignorance does not!". I like him! Didn´t know that about teh toe though, but I´ll take your word for it! :)
Al, don´t even get me started on gravity this morning. and sinc eyoua re so smart..."How fast is the speed of light actually, if it weren´t going all zigzag?"
squaregirl, teh world is small and Iceland even smaller:) I know how it is when you know somebody that knows soembody...makes dating really hard :)
concise 10...I am actually not sure about it. he wasn´t big on teh concept of church, that much I know:
"If you want to get together in any exclusive situation and have people love you, fine — but to hang all this desperate sociology on the idea of The Cloud-Guy who has The Big Book, who knows if you've been bad or good — and cares about any of it — to hang it all on that, folks, is the chimpanzee part of the brain working."
Oc *applauds loudly*
That had me laughing real hard! Good hinting at our trivia and I totally forgot about teh lettuce and bacon on sandwiches. I declare question number 2 and 5 answered!
He of the electric name, shares some of my theories on the care and feeding of children: "The first thing you have to do if you want to raise nice kids, is you have to talk to them like they are people instead of talking to them like they're property."
As to the funnies:
1.) To help your money leav.
3.) All or nothing.
5.) OC should be ashamed of himself.
I know the answer but that doesn't count because I googled, but first I googled the wrong person, Cat Stevens that is Yusuf Islam, boy, I had no idea what a beautiful man he is! in the time of Internet, geez...
Ariel
Oops!
#3 above should be #4 -- sorry.
The real answer to #3 is: you have to pay more when you give your opinion to help aleviate any damages incurred by the person who attemts to follow it.
The answer really just zappad right into my head, Minka. This rarely happens to me here on Thursdays. I think I deserve a prize or somethin'.
Quilly, well done and I love your answer to number 1! Well done indeed! And correct on the hinting too, one could almost assume you are a teacher ;)
Ariel, google is ok after a little while of guessing and still stumbling and well, we are also European ;)
Jenna, did it now my sweet? Well, then I guess you are right and *makes something spectacular with a hanger and a cup for a trophee*
Oh I know the answer but have not the clarity of mind to HINT so I will be good and just SHUT IT! SHUT IT I WILL!
And you know I love you in order to do that as, well, shutting it is not my forté!
And forgive my absence my dear sistah... things have been crazy here to say the least!
If women ran the Pentagon, they'd find other freaking means for "zapping" energy and/or enemies, and there'd be no NEED for submarines, never mind missles.
as for your "mystery" man? from a political standpoint, he regarded himself as a "pratical conservative" -- and often lampooned the targets of his cynicism in song (for instance, he wrote "Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk" and "Heavenly Bank Account" in order to poke fun at the "born again" Christian movement)
once you've revealed his name, you need to send folks over to his website, which is very fanciful/funny and... well... fab. xox
d'oh! that last line was supposed to read:
"... which is fanciful/funny and... well... quite frankly, fab." xox
Just like Condoleeza, neva?
oh ... sorry ...
miz bohemia...ther eis never any need to apologize for absence. My friends come and go when they please, and whenever life allows. My life of late has been a bit crazy and I know exactly what youa r etalkign about, although Yours is worse...I know for sho! I always luv ye, ´cause you are here, eventhough not in a commenty way;)
neva, is it just me or did you already finsih teh hinting??? LOL I wouldnæt mind having you in one of my classes.
OC, nice shooting!
O'C: Condi doesn't count, because we all know who the MEN are behind the scenes, pulling her strings... : P
Miss Penguin: uh... i'm feeling a little zapped right now, and frankly, i'd appreciate it if you'd cut me a little slack!
(okay, so maybe i just didn't want to up all the good hints in order to give everyone else a chance to play! or are you mocking me for giving away too much??) ^_^
I thought his daughter's name was Moon Unit?
If it hadn't been for the children's names, I would not have had a clue, and that would've been sad, indeed, as the other questions are even harder!
Neva, I am just glad you are back in old form. Thursday trivia´s always involved you hinting and hinting and hinting some more and Doug trying to limerick. You both are back...I like the old ways and that traditions carry on. Keep moving. You can have all the slack you want, want fries with it? :)
snavy, yes his oldest daughter is Moon Unit, she is 10 years older than me!
actonbell, they are, aren´t they!? I wonder how people can continue going on about their daily business with these quetsions floatign around! :)
Frankly I was dissappointed when I read Neva using my hint. I think I'll go hang out in Joe's Garage for a while.
Great questions and teazer!
If women ran the pentagon, the long strings attached to the submarines would be useful for rescues.
(I'm so sorry, I had to.)
"Why do you have to put your two cents in, but it's only a penny for your thoughts". Well that's just further proof that we all overvalue our own input. An economy of words, if you will.
The quiz:
His best advice ever "Don't go where the eskimos go and don't you eat that yellow snow"!
Morgan -- I am so ashamed of you!
Huskies, G. Huskies. The advice was to an Eskimo ...
;P
Huskies! That's it. As I typed it, something just felt wrong and well I'm google averse once I start typing a comment. Thanks.
Darn, Blogger ate my comment:
Firstly, people are confusing Huskies with tourists in New Orleans. The Inuit train the dogs to be house broken.
Secondly, Quilly, if I can't make you laugh, at least I can laugh at you while you blush. >:-)
A penny for your thoughts:
Sometimes we all need a little advice. At those times we will pay a penny for the service. Most of the time we don't want to hear your ^@* opinion. So you will have to pay us twice that much to listen.
Q: Why are thoughts worth a penny?
A: We don't use half-pence any more.
Morgan, go stick your head in the sand somewhere! *shakes head*
g, it is the simple things in life that people should be warned with! I liked him for that! Well done!
Quilly, I am right behind you ...I think it is time we gave him the look!
amoeba, sometimes when youa re around I wish I were a bit smarter, so I´d get what you are on about!
G. I am glad you understood. At least this site has able commenters :)
Morgan, there was no smile, and if...it was a malicious one filled with anger! And that was a nice attempt to answer my philosophical quetsion this week, but I am not buying it for a penny!
Minka, if you tell the amoeba you don't know what he's talking about, he is capable of explaining in plain english.
"If women ran the Pentagon, would missiles and submarines be shaped differently?"
Clear misunderstanding. You were looking for a pentagon joke but got a women joke. Sorry bought that! :-D
In that case:
"The shape would be the same, but female leaders wouldn't have crossed the line of decency by filling the sub with 'seamen'." ;-)
"I don't know nothing"
If women ran the Pentagon, Haaaaaahaha!!! Wait, I just heard who put her hat in for the race for pres here in the US.....is it possible.
Now if I ran the Pentagon Missiles and submarines would be shaped like my middle finger....just saying.....Luckily that is not possible.....me running the Pentagon, that is.
Morgan -- I'd scold you again, but I'm laughing too hard to keep a straight face.
well then come try dating in the U.S. there are many losers here, but some amainfg guys and there are far less chances of them knowing one another...
Square, you'd be surprised. We all share one mind. The fajitas were pretty good, thanks.
Like, Oh My God! Totally! As soon as you, like, said "mothers of invention," I was like, radical! it's like that guy who like recorded that Valley Girl song. Totally awesome!
Just dropping by to say, hello! :)
Quilly, you have tried it? I am just afraid it is gonna be twice as long :)
Morgan *claps*
Móa, like our middle finger? You sure have guts, If I could make any shap, any shape, and we´d be smart enough to figure it out!- it would be like a flying penguin! We always wanted to try:)
Quilly, don´t encourage him further!
Square, Ok...that sounds sensible. Maybe when I land you can have a few lined up for me?!
Doug, and I bet that mind isn´t located where one would assume :)
Birdwoman, nothing like San Fernando Valley, to be sure! Square, know any guys there?!¨
Tim, well hello right back at you! And why not throw a lovely Wednesday in as well :)
On, the contrary, Minka. The mind is exactly where you'd expect it, part of the universal remote.
Minka, have you ever seen the Galleria in really nice part of Sherman Oaks? Nice place for a Valley Girl (like I was) to hang out... (NOT!) Really, I was so happy to know that answer without a single moment's hesitation, but she who posts last can't hint any more - LOL My sweetie's friend's email is FZLIVES... after him. He's a solar energy freak :-)
