Thursday Brain Teaser
"In the 1970s and 1980s, he was a struggling comedian working at odd jobs, like selling light bulbs over the phone, while refining his comic skills at rundown clubs. In 1981, he made his debut on the Tonight Show and spent the next decade on the road. Along with another comic, he created a television show that introduced America to puffy shirts, Soup Nazis, masters of domains and many other catch phrases. The final episode of the show aired in 1998 and became the most written about TV event since Little Ricky was born."

Not so bad - as his first name rhymes with mine :-D
The best jokes can sometimes fall flat
When New Yorkers do nothing but chat
What to one seems a bore
The many adore
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I'm tired. And lame. Mainly lame.
his was a show about nothing. and nothing continues to be as funny now as it was when it first showed up on the peacock's air.
i may be way off but...Does Living and Color have something to do with it?
Not that there's anything wrong with it indeed. If you were unemployed at the time, a name to put on your resume may well have been Vandalay Industries. Just don't get caught in the bathroom when Unemployment calls to check up on you.
I am embarassed to admit I couldn't stomach watching his show. He and his sillly band of friends annoyed the snot out of me. And because of that I refuse to hint. So there!
There was the splashy guest appearance on the show by a now "Desparate Housewife" whose assets were described as "real and spectacular."
I know, I know!! Me, me, me! Pick me! OOOOO! Waves hands madly! I agree with Jenna - his show made me nuts. Although I really enjoyed the character across the hall from him, crazy dude. D :}
along with Vandalay (good one, G!),the name "Mulva" comes to mind...
I think of dancing that looks like... siezures!
Another one who never watched the show, like Diane and Jenna. Mind you, I was in New Zealand through most of the show's run, and in Canada for much of the rest of it. By which time I was ready to swear off the box in its entirety (didn't have it during my tenure as a science bureaucrat in Arlington, Virginia).
I learned about the show's reputation, of course. But I never saw the signs. Or was that sines. Nah. Too mathematical.
:)
Isn't this where Festivus came from? Feats of Strength, Airing of Grievances, and all that?
I don't have a clue...so just call me "Clueless"... only have a wireless connection for a few minutes, but will be back to see who everyone is talking about.
he was a fan of Superman, cereal, and cleanliness; hated by Babu, Newman, and Crazy Joe Davola; and, yada yada yada... he was once addicted to shaving his chest.
oh, and for G (and/or Tali) there's this: Top o' the Muffin!
yes. i was a fan and i still am. this show revolved around people who were completely beyond redemption. what's not to love?
Good limerick Doug. BTW, I can't even claim to have watched that show - doesn't work for me. At all. But I hear it does tickle some folks' funny bones.
Oh, man, I can picture this guy, but can't come up with a name. No soup for me!
I often regret not marketing the muffin tops. Or was it the bottoms? Delorrres!!!!!!
Hahaha those are some good ones. If you're ever at a lost for a gift for a loved one, one episode used Fusilli in a unique fashion.
cj: that was a favorite dance at our holiday parties for a few years! Or sometimes we'd just do that number in the office.
or ever at a loss...
Cereal. And SuperMan. And Obsessive cleaniness. And a litany of co-stars that went on to bigger fame (Debra Messing, Terri Hatcher, Kristin Davis)...Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Oh and NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!!
Look like this can be another learning experience for me. I pretty ignorant of TV and comics.
Hope you are doing well. Are you still reading that Prachett book? :)
Terry, indeed. That is at least an easy clue!
Doug, not that there is anything wrong with that at all! I love you little limericks on my Thursday posts!
Brian, O am sorry but that is not thr right answer :) And of course!
neva, is there ever a trivia where you don´t know the answer? You are turning out to be in the top players every week! Thank you so much for always playing.
Jodes, I am not sur eit does. Anybody?
g, Vandalay! Thank God you dropped that name, otherwise I would have completely missed that you knew the answer!
Jenna: You, Diane, OC and myself will party while teh others watch teh re-runs. One of my bets friends love sthsi show, so I attempted many a time to watch an episode or two. Without fail I was hardly amused, yet trying so hard. I might have dislocated my funny bone :)
Joel, You are talking about the brown haired, skinny one that always ends up int oruble, right?
FF, yeah I see his image. Crazy dude across the hall!
neva, some people think of teh oddest names :)
cj, sizures...I had to google! *claps*
oc, join the club! Sines!!! Well done!
swampy, I think it is not the worst thing in teh world if you are clueless to this one, there is 4 of us now.
*celebrates*
neva, oh you like this show?! I had no idea *big grin*
One day you´ll have to explain to me the secret of it all, so that I get it :)
terry, 5! Gosh ...i am contemplating group sessions :)
actonbell, I ahve a feeling that "No Soup for me" has somethign to do with thsi show. If so...that is a funny line! maybe I really should give it another chance!
G, fusilli? Ther eis so much I donæt know about!
square, yeah...I hear that is common. But don´t worry, never been a soup fan to begin with. So I don´t do minding my time :)
brian, I hope you enjoy it very much. Remember: open your eyes, look at the colours and breathe, hug your wife ...
TIm, that is a really good question. Life has me around its little finger at the moment. But I am fine and now I have a little time to relax for a day or two...which is very nice.
Jodes & Minka: Nothing to do with In Living Color except that both were pretty hilarious shows. In Living Color starred the Wayans Brothers (2 and then at least another one) and Jim Carrey started off there as well. Hysterical.
Fusilli Jerry!
Too easy, monica... not that there's anything wrong with that
;-)
It was the Moops!

Hi
Nice blog :)
I'm with Jen and Diane..i thought I was the only one who thought this show was just awfull, except, like Diane..the guys across the hall was the best..I had seen him years earlier in a very very funny show simuilar to Saturday Nite Live..called Fridays..just hilarious..!!
My fave episode of all time was where a certain female lead cast member was hopped up on drugs for her back ache and at a dinner they all had to go to kept yelling "Stellaaaaaaa"! Classic!!! Loverboy's first episode ever too, back when we were platonic...
A major writer/producer of the show is the brilliant/quirky/neurotic star of Curb Your Enthusiasm and the star of the show is known for his love of Porsches...
Miz B! you're right..."Stellaaaaaaa!" was classic! as was "maybe the dingo ate your baby"-- which never fails to crack me up.
and O'C? i'm thinkin' the episode about the fake marine biologist, the whale, and the errant golf ball might put a smile on your face. maybe.
Monika, you just need to view this show with the proper perspective (and/or tutors?). trust me, most of the humor is right up your snarky Penguin's alley! xox
What a great show. I have every episode on DVD and still enjoy watching them every so often.
There was a time, as a child, I use to stay up late to watch this show. Later it was just something I took for granted. Now, in endless rerun, it's pretty lame. Some classic episodes are GREAT, most are a bit boring. But much like this classic comedy show, I'm now waiting for the next instalment of my latest entertainment addiction. Let's stop commenting on J.S.! I need more Minka! :-)
Is that too demanding? Oh well.
Morgan
OK OK...I think I got it...Ya Da Ya Da Ya Da? How many clues does it take for a swampwitch to catch on?
g...you watch way too much tv :)
cube, onc ein a blue moon, I feel like giiving you guys a break, make you feel good about yourself and an easy Thursday brain teaser seems a good choice. Next week, Vladimir Iljisch Lenin :)
wildrose, nice name :)
madd...I believe that makes 6 of us now, and with that we sorta have a petition to sign...
Miz B: correct you are!
Neva, I am willing to be educated in regards to teh show, I just hope that the effort wonæt be wasted on me :)
Brian, it was busy, I ahte back to back shifts and little sleep. But still, I canæt really complain, healthy and fit as a fiddle :)
Fred, the same with me and FRiends, more often though :)
Morgan, patience is a virture I never got :) New post will be up in a few minutes, if blogger lets me publish some pics :)
