Thursday Brain Teaser and Shoe Shopping!

Ok, a friend of mine-and she really should know better-asked me to go shoe-shopping with her. I am as girly as the next girl and I do understand that people need shoes. But for the love of God, pick the type of shoe you want and maybe even the colour at home. Then go to the store with an idea in mind something along the line of: Blimey, winter is approaching fast, I need a warm pair of boots, with a slight heel, preferably in brown! But nooooo...she tried on at least 30 pairs in 6 different stores! Different types of shoes, some you couldn´t even introduce to the Icelandic climate. Birna, I love you and all, but you knew I wasn´t the right person to pick for this voyage!
There came a time when I really had enough, and I am usually allowed one break where I go downstairs to the bakery and get a slice of nutty cake. Yummy...
So around shoe 16, in a slimmer heel, burgundy classic this converstaion took part:

Monika:"I think it is time for my slice of cake!"
Birna:"Monika, just let go and try to embrace your femininity!"
Monika (grabbing her boobs!) utters in a loud voice that turns almost every head in the store: "You mean like this?"
Birna:"Maybe that piece of cake, isn´t such a bad idea after all!"

She wrapped up pretty quickly after that, picked me up at the bakery where I was joyfully munching my cake and we went home smiling. Oh, and she picked a pair of brown boots for the fast approaching winter. Shocking!

and for our weekly joy:

"Her divorce made a historical impact in history. She was the daughter of Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain. Her first husband died. In 1509, her next husband, the brother of her dead husband, became the king of England. Of their four children, only one lived, and her failure to have a boy led to her divorce, which to get, her husband had to leave the Roman Catholic Church and start the English Reformation."

You know what to do :) Off you go hinting at the right answer in the comment section!

yay for me... FIRST! *proudly pats self on back*

as for the first hint: hmmmm... this woman had the *same* name as a queen you featured a couple of weeks ago, right? oh, and at least she kept her head during her separation from her hubby...

(i can do better, but i want to get this off before i'm patting myself on the back for no good reason)

hah! i'm gone for 2 minutes and you've already changed the cartoon? no matter... loved the other one, love this one, too!

i came back to tell you how much i enjoyed your shopping tale, and that i couldn't agree with you more about the sensibility of getting shoes with function (as opposed to those frivolous pretty things that couldn't keep a pinky toe warm on a sunny day!) i'm partial to UGGS, myself, but warm boots are warm boots... glad Birna ultimately succumbed to your way of thinking (and allowed you to finally have your cake, to ... er... boot!) xox

A Queen must seem without sin,
Yet ready enough to begin
A line of succession
To avoid insurrection
And distract from that tramp, Anne Boleyn.

Oh, and funny story. I bet that's the first department store in the world where men loiter in ladies' shoes.

Neva, you are teh first! *hands her a medal* And you are absolutely rigth and your memory is working just fine, I was wondering if anybody would bring up that hint of a previous quiz :) Well done!
I am waitign for another lovely hint... but I guess it is still early days :)

Douglas, tramp? You sure have soem vocabulary. Dontæ get to play it out at your place a lot, ey? I wonder why that is *grins*

Doug... that limerick was inspired!

hmmmm. technically, folks who consume mass quantities of alcohol could thank this woman for Bloody Marys.

think about it... xox

was she the queen that sent Admiral Drake considered a pirate by the elite against the Spanish Armada? nice career for a pirate, heh...

wrong hint, the queen I thought of was never married. but at least I could think of someone this time!

next hint: her husband had the same first name as Ibsen and was numbered with an even number. (yeah, I know...)

At 07:35, Blogger Minka said...

neva, indeed they could!

ariel, the second one is good. Although the Ibsen name sharer and even number dude is correct he was married more than one. So I am not sure you got the right lady yet. Maybe another hint?

I think you stumped me on this one. Your shopping experience sounded wearisome! ;)

Numerologists must have had a great time with this woman! She was the last of a second. The third cousin of a seventh, and to her second husband (who was an eight) she was the first of six for twenty-four.

:-)

Brian - isn't this one of your relatives? That movie with Kate Hepburn? Oh, If I could give the title! Perhaps, I am wrong, though - how embarrassing! D ??

Ariel, I think you're thinking of the half-sister of the daughter of the answer. I do that all the time.

Maybe this will help:

The Queen came from Aragon dreading
The halls which she soon would be treading.
She placed all of her hope
In the hands of the pope
And her daughter's fondness for beheading.

in the my first hint was still in family. :)

my hints are taken. you've already revealed in your description that husband in question inherited this lady from his older brother. Neva has already mentioned that the firstname she had showed up on this blog some weeks ago. I didn't know about the Bloody Mary thing. sounds interesting!

At 17:36, Blogger Minka said...

Tim, maybe a secodn visit about now might clear it up?

brian, it doesnæt matter of you know the answer or not, you know I always settle for a hello from you :)

IDAN, numerologists would get a kick out of that one, unfourtunately I don´t do numbers and don´t get me started on gravity either!:)

FF, I don´t know which movie you are referring too. nybody else got a clue?

Doug, now youa re just showing off!

ariel, well this lady claims she never consumated her marriage with his brother. I mean he was of a really weak constitution and died only 6 months after the wedding...maybe she was telling the truth, maybe not. Given her daughters reputation, I have a Anna Nichole Smith image popping up in my head :)

Each of the brothers she married was younger than her...oh that isn't much of a hint. She was eventually stripped of her title as "Queen" and technically became a "Princess".

Very funny story, and I actaully refuse to go shoe shopping with my friends or sisters anymore...I fail to see how shoe shopping could ever be fun.

square, If I was a bit more edgy we´d be perfect for each other :)

FF, checke dthe movie ( there are actually two versions and a Broadway play!) None of them-as far as I can tell- revolve around the character we are lookign for.

Doug, skipped you purpose *grins*

the name of the Spanish region this Queen originated from seems *very* close to that of a certain character played by Viggo Mortensen in a fabulous Oscar winning trilogy of films involving Hobbits. (or is that just my own weird sensibility acting up, again?) xox

At 20:44, Blogger Minka said...

neva, you take the crown! That is exactly the hint I was wiatign for!!! fabulous, you are! That man in those movies...!!! Life is too sweet at times :)
