Harry Klein

Most of you know I have two pets. They are budgies and just so darn cute. They are sorta stupid, in a charming way. They fly against the window if I have just cleaned it, they love to gnaw my books and they wake me up as soon as the sun rises. But I love them dearly. Look how cute they are!
Well, this morning when I woke up, I found one of them on the floor of their bird-home. I immediately went into survival mode, ´cause I have seen it before and I was not gonna re-live the pain (see June14, 15 and 24th 2005). So I gently put him in his travel box, and broke about ten traffic regulations on my way to the vet.
Apparently that little dude has swallowed something he can't pass. If you know birds, you know that they have to go a lot throughout the day and now everything is blocking inside of him. I am basically injecting oil into his mouth every half an hour and just hope...

Even worse, the other bird is now so worried about his little brother that he is running nervously around him and picking at him in a frantic manner. It just breaks my heart. The two of them have spent their lives together from the day they were born.

Poor little gents. I hope things turn quickly for the better for all three chatty birds. I'm still stunned by how cute those little guys are. I can't believe anything living comes in that shade.

Oh, Monika, I'm so sorry! It is awful to lose birds or even have them get ill. I have finches, canaries and cockatiels. I lost two of my dear finches a few weeks ago in the terrible heat wave we had - as well as my cat, because I don't have any air conditioning. Your budgies are adorable - I had one that color named Sky. Best wishes for his speedy recovery!

Oh no! I hope he gets better soon my friend! We had two budgies once and one of my cats snuck into the room they were flying in and bit one... cat saliva is poison to their system and since she punctured the bird I rushed like a maniac to the vet. My mom called me an idiot for taking a bird to the vet but the vet said had I not done that he would have died.

I had to give him medicine for weeks but he survived! I wil be thinking of your sweet little budgie and hope he heals as fast as possible!

Much love to you sweet Minka!

AND STOP BLOGGING SO MUCH CAUSE I HAVE BEEN AWAY AND AM HAVING A CRAZY TIME KEEPING UP AND I CANNOT FALL BEHIND WITH YOUR NEWS DAMMIT!!!

First of all: Harry is doing much better. he had a little poop and feels very relieved right now. he has eaten very little and therefore looks sorta skinny, but he sat up again and almost flew into his cage all by himself...he is just so tiny!

Doug, well their mother is rather pretty, it is all in teh genes! ;)

Tsduff, I am so sorry to hear that. I can't even anticipate that. It must be horrible and reminds me of how fragile our pets really are. I am glad to hear anotehr blogger has a thing for birdies...sometimes i feel all alone.

logo, thank you and we are feeling a bit better. I might have lost a kilo though today...forgetting to eat and nervously jumping through teh apartment :) Chocolate cake?

Brian, he is better already, so thank you for your good wishes.

Tim, but of course they are, they ar emine! :)

Miz B. I had to blog this morning to distract myself from worrying.
I am glad you took that little birdie to the vet. It is a living creature and I don't think it matters how small or big they are, the love we attach to them is what counts. personally I always thought a pig would make a greta pet...if I had one, i´d take it to teh vet as well :)

I hear that pigs are great pets. Birds are beautiful. My husband's stepdad is in a nursing home right now and in one of the sitting rooms, they have these beautiful birds - little finches. I just love watching them. Glad to hear he's on the mend. I think you birds better all get some rest!

G, That is a lovely idea to have birds in nursing homes. Unfourtunately, here in iceland, soemtime snursing homes are closer to hospital images rather than homes :(
But we are working on it!
And all three of us are feeling really well this morning.
That was quite a scare wasnæt it?

Minka, it's good to hear of his recovery. How goes yours?

i am SO glad to know your little friend is doing better! in this house, everyone shifts into EMS mode at first sight of animal illness and/or injury.

we used to have feathered friends like yours when we lived in Florida, one was bright green, the other neon yellow. they were terribly noisy and prolific poopers. it might have been easier to cope with the mess and/or screeching had they been such a lovely shade of Icelandic Blue!

i hope you and your sweet 'babies' are doing well now, and that the rest of your weekend is free from traumas big *and* small! xox

he is so much better. H eis eating again and everything :) He´ll be himself in a day or two. I am very happy about that!

I'm a bird fanatic. Sometimes I have to work at avoiding being rude to folks if we are talking outside and a bird flies by. My attention is hopelessly diverted to the flying bird and away from my conversation... I'm so happy your buddy is feeling better!

Hey. Just got here. Something about a neglected statue in your garden ...

Reminds me when my sister had a couple of budgies, looked kinda like this. And a houseful of cats.

The bird's names?

Breakfast. And Lunch.

They died of old age. About nine years for these guys.

:)
