29 down ...plenty more to go!

My birthday was great, fun-filled and I had me a slice or two of that delicious strawberry cake my sister bought in the next bakery constructed with delicate hands and loving dedication.
After a tough start- dressing three little children, finding their travel toys and re-dressing niece number 3 'cause she delightfully spilled juice all over her lovely pink dress...where is the dog...and please don't eat chocolat now...do I have my purse...the car-keys, where did I put them? and other related incidents- we finally got going.

I love amusement parks. As a kid I seriously contemplated becoming a clown (until i got scared of them) or an Indian, I assumed both of these worked in amusement parks. I enjoyed the rides very much. The higher the better. Sense the past-tense here! After a ride with the "Crazy Snake" I had said good-bye to the organized structure of my intestines. Which didn't keep me from leaping right onto bungee-jumping. I am not one to let a sense of reguritated liver stop me from the anticipated fun I had decided I was going to have. We spent the entire day there, but as the evening drew closer I could be seen with my youngest niece in rides where the speed would not have impressed a snail.

Slighty green -but unbelievably happy- we drove all the way North where we took a dip into the Balitic Ocean. Amazing, refreshing and potentially harmful.
See, I learned swimming at the age of 14 and not a moment sooner. And even that only by accident. I love the ocean and the water, but I respect it even more and to be entirely truthful...I was always worried about the ugly, huge creatures that were lurking at the bottom of the ocean only to snap their shiny teeth into my unsuspecting legs whenever I would enter the water. Now, I can keep my head above water, but I am not a strong swimmer. I decided 29 is not the age to get caucious and know you limitations, so I dared the waves and as a result swollowed more salt-water than I care to meassure. Did I mention that I am going back later today to ride those waves?!

We grilled in the late evening, there was music and people laughing and then I fell asleep somewhere between a chair and another sleeping person and awoke slightly sore the next morning.

That was my 29th Birthday and while I was there daring the big waves, sun blazing down on me, the laughter of my nieces in the background ... I was so happy. There was no other place at that moment where I'd rather be. That is a wonderful feeling on your birthday!

yes, that is a wonderful feeling, I'm so happy to hear you had a birthday like that, a perfect day under the sun.

(oh and I've always known I am right with those hungry creatures under the water. they are only waiting for us!)

oooh! i'm so happy to be teh *second* to say Howdy! and soooo glad to know you had such a wonderful/special/adventured-filled birthday!! roller coasters? bungee-jumping? splashing about in the surf?? on top of Strawberry Cake? brave girl! (but that's what 29 is about... being brave/cutting loose the "kid" in you. actually, 39-49 is about that, too! actually i'm not sure what birthday is *not* about that... and i hope i never find out.)

good to see your happy face/name around the blogosphere, dear Minka! xoxo

You're so right, "nowhere I'd rather be" is a perfect feeling for a birthday. That's why on my birthday I always go to the bottom of the ocean where ugly, huge creatures are appreciated.

OK, I guess I'm supposed to do a post today. Great to hear from you.

I am so happy to hear from you.....your birthday sounded perfect and it is good to hear how happy you are.
How is Auntie going to find you? I will be able to check my e-mail while in Denmark......this is so exciting, AuntieMo'a and Minka are going to have fun....should I wear my dancing shoes? ;)

Sounds like a nice day Minka. Being 'exactly where you want to be' is a rare gift that many strive for and don't attain, especially on potentially stressful days like birthdays.

Glad you didn't get eaten by sea monsters. Believe it or not I've never swum in salt water, only lakes. :-)

Glad you enjoyed your birthday so! This Pisces has yet to learn that lesson! I tend to run for the hills and hybernation would be my idea of a perfect day! But hey, I never said bohemians were normal now did I? ;-) Hope you have a great whats left of your vacation!!! I gotta get off my lazy bum and send you an email (mainly to say that the calling card does not connect to mobiles so if there is a land line number and when you will be there... Oh! There, I said it!)...

At 18:46, Blogger Minka said...

ariel, since you have aged that quickly in a couple of days (your avatar)...I wish you many more amazing birthdays :)

neva, there is a song in Germna where it goes: "Mit 66 Jahren da faengt das Leben an...mit 66 Jahren da hat man Spass daran!" I hope that when I am 66 I still get as excited about my birthday as I do now!

Douglas, of all the things big and ugly.... you are not on top of that list! *huge grin*

Auntie...we will definately see each other, that is so great. Maybe we will even bump into each other at the airport. What time do you land?

Kyahgirl, I looked out for sharks all the time. But apparently the water is too cold where we were...so I was safe. I loved to bathe in lakes when I was in Finland. perfect!

Jodes, I'll get back to you for tips on my 33rd. Seems like you got it down!

Joel, yes I am having a great time, but i can't wait to get back home as well. Holidays can be tiresome and I need a relaxation from my vacation!

Brian, I always wanna go back to iceland. I also wanna go quickly back on vacation. You know how the grass is always greener on the other side?! :)

Snav, a cancer by any chance?

aisha...myself being a firm believer in that ignorance is bliss, will gloss over that remark :)

shayna, to be honest..I can't wait. It is a number after all, but such a big and round one. Besides, people never guess my age correctly;)

Sar, hear hear!

Square, the card was not entirely square like, but I thought a rectangle would pass :)

BM, thank you!

Miy B. at this moment I am living somewhere where my scell doesn#t even have a connection and I also have no water...it is a long story, but fascinating. I am almost camping in the wild!

At 20:29, Blogger ariel said...

I like round numbers, too, they are nicely balanced. :)

cold water and German people are another story. nobody even close the water here when German tourists are already swimming happily up and down in the 18 C Lake Balaton. small children even. brrr...

ohmygosh! did I miss Ariel's birthday too? She doesn't have an official blog so if she is indeed a fellow cancer I hope you don't mind Minka if I wish her a very happy birthday here!

And by the way Ariel if you are reading this, happy birthday? I so much wish you DID have a blog.

Gracious me, I'm late, but Happy belated birthday! (my computer sits in an un-airconditioned room, and I've been too hot to stay awake!)

And it sounds like a good time was had by all, what a great birthday!!

It's been hot-hot here, too, and it's really slowed me down. I feel so old.

I love the waves, too! I'm going on a short trip to Sea Isle City in early August, and I hear the water is freezing! If it's still THIS hot, though, I might not care.

I worked in an amusement park one summer. It's boring. Of course, I was operating kiddie rides, and lifting kids all day.

I'm impressed that you guessed the author I was reading, too!

Ahhhh I see. So does that mean Ariel an Aries?? In that case I am either inexcusably late or annoyingly really early. And since squares are usually inexcusable and annoying, I'll assume I'm both. It's a lovely new avatar by the way Ariel.

What a wonderful birthday!
I love roller coasters, but I can't handle the ones that go upside down too much. I get all discombobulated.
Body surfing is loads of fun, but I'm not one to want to swim very far out into the ocean. No, not me. I saw Jaws.
When I turned 29 a bunch of ladies from our church mistakenly thought I was turning 30, and they gave me a surprise 30th party. They were shocked to find out that I was turning 29. It was great to have a 30th b-day party and know I still had a full year to go before I turned 30. Enjoy the rest of your twenties, Minka!!!!
