Thursday Brain Teaser!

I realize most of you will know the answer immediately. But, his name is difficult to hint at...so I just sorta wanna see what you gonna do about it :)
Besides, it was so sunny today in Iceland that I was out all day enjoying the rays. This fella had some lovely ideas about the sun!

I usually don´t do molecules, but here it goes:

"With a homemade telescope, he examined space and discovered sunspots, Jupiter’s moons and the mountains and valleys of the Moon. His descriptions of the laws of falling bodies changed the field of physics. Believing that the Earth revolves around the Sun, he faced opposition from the Catholic Church, and angered philosophers who believed Aristotle’s tenant that no new object could exist in the universe. The Vatican admitted it made a mistake in condemning him in 1992, 350 years after his death."

If you think you got it, off you go to the comment section and HINT!!! at the right answer. Don´t just go blurting it out and spoil the fun. Miz B. and Sar...are ye guys listening? :)

Now, have fun with it!

In the 18th century, one Spanish treasure ship visited Africa and came home with a lion, while another landed in Hawaii and each sailor got a flowered necklace.

You're staring at me ...

:)

The Indigo Girls have a song that is his name. Here are some of the lyrics:

"How long til my soul get's it right? Does any human being ever reach that kind of light? I call on the resting soul of (...), king of insight, king of night vision."

It's a really beautiful song.

O Ceallaigh, wouldn't those ships be in France?

OK, this is a strange and probably stupid clue but his full name reminds me of the title of a duet from Die Zauberflaute.

Totally off-topic, Squaregirl, but speaking of the Indigo Girls, I hold the honor of having dated who woman who once got hit on by Amy Ray. If I am ever the subject of a trivia question it will be "He was a frequent commenter on Monika's weblog before every canyon echoed with her name and once dated a girl who'd been hit on by Amy Ray."

Oh Monika... my brain is tired... I just can't... not tonight... but I just wanted to come by and say "Hello my darlin' Ice Queen".

ooopsss... MINKA!!!! Sorry... I'm soooo tired...

his two initials are the same + are the same like the initial of my first name.

(I may be wrong, and the clues already given should tell me if I am but I admit they don't, and his name is the very only one I can think of anyway.)

(2 more hints came to me but I wouldn't wanna leave less hints to others. just sayin')

In tres partes divisus est to you too, Doug. Caesar's legions might have brought a lion to Lutetia, but they would have known nothing of Pacific volcanoes.

And in recognition of your service to the world through Waking Ambrose, I hereby spare you a chorus of Once In Love With Amy.

Owie! That's one harsh wet noodle my sistah. ;)

Okay, okay. How about this. He was one of the original illuminati.

At 15:13, Blogger Kyahgirl said...

I can't think of any obscure hints but because I know Ariel's first name I will agree with her hint :-)

and Doug, you poor man.

At 18:09, Blogger Minka said...

OC...interesting. I would like the lion, please! If this was supposed to be a clue...*looks confused* adn stop starring at me like that!

Square, bugger...I ahve to check that! never heard of them girls. Are they any good?

Doug, finally a hint I got! Well done! But then again, why would every canyon echo my name? *looks even more worried*

Shayna, you can call me Monika :) It is my name after all!

Ariel, I herby doub thee Gabriella. I have no clue if that is your name, but if it starts with the same initial your hint is right :) And don´t worry about teh above clues, they don´t tell me anything either :)

OC...recently I wrote a post about Doug and My anniversary (we´ve been blogging together for a year!) and I mentioned that this, contrary to his site, is a place where we chill, kick back our shoes and unwind after pretending to be smart over at WA! You are so not playing by teh rules. Mend your ways, young man! :)

Bjössi, lovely voice and youa re so right!

Brian, we are not looking for Leonardo Da Vinci!

Sar, yes he was...but so were quite a few!

Kyahgirl...well then both of you are right I guess. And Doug will live ...

It's the Latin, isn't it, Minka? Like the imaginary leonine mascot that Caesar's troops had with them while they were dividing Gaul into three parts. And taking over each one in turn. Ave, Doug.

I'd love to bring you that lion, Minka. But I'm afraid that if I were to come with it, you might feel that you'd touched Bottom.

:)

There you are! I have missed you sweet sistah and here I come to check up on you and find myself scolded? Hmph! ;-P

Well, this one I know but as for hinting!!! MON DIEU! C'est incroyablement difficile!

Hmmm.... Well, his initials, being the same and therefore just one letter, so... that letter is quite popular in gangsta talk... hear what I'm sayin'____ (insert letter here!) Yeah! Word up to yo mama's own ____ (insert letter here again!)!

See what I mean?

Vraiment, ma chatte. Especially since la fille glacée seems not to know that the Spanish at the time stated transported their New World gold to the old on galleons. I guess her education in English didn't extend to Treasure Island. "Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight! Aawk!"

I'm thinking of the lyrics to that Queen song. Ya know the one on Wayne's World?

At 20:11, Blogger Ariel the Thief said...

yes, that's my name. :)

is "C'mon, baby, light my fire" is too much of a tasteless hint?

At 20:12, Blogger Ariel the Thief said...

yaaay, my fave Queen song!!! or one of.

At 21:58, Blogger Minka said...

Brian, much! *applauds*

OC, nothing wrong with bottom I always felt, as long as the rear is lucious :)

Miz B. I hear you, loud and clear!

OC, nu ertu alveg að fara med mer, haettu thessu nuna strax audur en eg lemji thig! *grins* How do you like them apples?

Snav, the one and only. Boy i was a sucker for Wayne´s World...goofy!

Ariel, it depends. This song was also a song by my favourite boyband Take That in the 1990. I have no excuse...
And gabriella is such a pretty name:)

At 22:24, Blogger tsduff said...

Squaregirl took my hint - t'was the only one I know. And yes, the Indigo Girls are fabulous! Lovely voices.

I'm off to The Land!

At 22:30, Blogger Minka said...

TSDUFF, be safe and remember to call if you need assitance and never ever answer "Do you have a light!" just keep on moving. You´ll be fine and I hope you have a grand time!

At 23:41, Blogger Jamie Dawn said...

That song is the BEST part of Wayne's World. LOVE it!

A, B, C, D, E, F, "G"

I hope you have some more great sunny days!!

At 01:00, Blogger The amoeba said...

Minka, first you'd have to catch me. And those apples I'm carrying might be golden. Beware.

:)

If he were a woman he'd be a wonderful "gal"...?

At 02:25, Blogger Alana said...

To answer your question and to echo tsduff, I also feel that the Indigo Girls are amazing (although not for everyone). They have really beautiful and harmonic voices...Amy Ray and Emily Sailers are the names of the girls.

Oh and Doug, I'll start thinking of my hint for the day when you are the subject of a trivia question.

He didn't hang out with Kepler, but they were working in the roughly same field at the same time.
That's the best I can do.
And I finally posted the 5 questions for you on my blog.
mwah!

At 11:04, Blogger Minka said...

Jamie Dawn...I totally agree. Let´s sing it together, everybody now!
I just realized I have never seen Wayne´s World in English, just teh doubted german version!

OC, that made me laugh. Very good comeback indeed! I like that you now give me little links, so I can understand what youa re talking about!

Cube, I love that. It is my favourite hint!

Squaregirl, a trivia about Doug...hey how about I do Trivias for all my blogger buddies?! Interesting...

neva, and i thought your brain wasnæt working ;)

logo, finally. I get a chanc eto do them before i am off! And yes, you also are right. Surprise, surprise!

And now it is time to reveal the person behind our Trivia:

GALILEO GALILEI

At 15:39, Blogger S said...

Oh man, I am so late on this one, but I knew the answer right away, and my hint would have been:

If youve ever watched Arthur the cartoon about the aardvark, you will know the answer to this right away........

(not a clever clue, but that is how I knew the answer, hey! Im a mom, so what if I learned about Galileo from a cartoon!)
