Monsters are real!

They are everywhere. In your imagination, under your bed, the odd Terry Pratchett novel or even in the Eurovision song contest!
Yes, Finnland took it home yesterday evening. Those adorable and conventional little teddy-bears got the most votes in a singing-competition all over Europe, where good music is not necessarily a given.
Iceland gave them twelve points(the highest amount). For many reasons probably: the song was actually quite good; Finnland is one of the 5 Nordic countries and we know those Finns can hold their liquor, a quality we greatly admire. Apparently other nations were along similar lines of reasoning.
But I let you be the judge: Hardrock Halleluja!

p.s I think they won based on looks, I really do!

Just watched a short bit of their performance on CNN...kind of like the song and you gotta love the costumes and theatrics, right? How did the Icelandic song do??

I think Silvia Nott had the "Big fish in a little pond syndrum" that just does not fly with the rest of Europe.
The Finns are rather fun.....they were realy into it.

Cool song! With those voices, I think there's hope for me yet even with my voice disorder. :)
They look like characters from Star Trek episodes.

Congrats to the Finns, poor Sylvia.
I thought she was so funny, oh well.
Good fun, thanks for keeping us all up-to-date, Minka!

Móa, in Iceland we like to believe that the rest of the world just doesnæt get our humour. Although I think she went a little far when she insulted other contestants and threw interviewers out of the room becuase they looked her into the eyes. We still think she is great though!

Karma, when I was little there used to be something like a doll´s doctor.
I wonder if they have those for teddies. Eternally winking? I bet he has a life-long headache!

Shayna, it is a good trick to get them into the bedroom;)

Doug, how many beers can you drink before you feel invincible? Which coincidently was also one of the songs presented at the competition!

Jamie Dawn, Star Trek just keeps popping up in my life lately...I guess I have to check it out. Klingons? Where are they from?
Love your new avatar by the way!

Logo, I think Silvia will be fine, after she lost she still was in character and kept on insulting teh world! Feel a little like BBC Minka today! Bringing Europe right to your computer screen. Technology, you gotta love it!

I agree with you Monika I think Sylvia Nott is fun. I think that Icelanders are sometimes act as if they are the greatest in the world...sometimes that is embarassing......humility goes a long way.

Móa...we are so few...you literally cna be anything if you put your mind to it here. There are so few to chose from that you actually have a shot. With opportunity comes "Groessenwahnsinn". And I totally agree with you...we do believe we are teh best in teh world. How we got that idea is lost in history forever!

cowgirl, didnæt like it? It is a really good song, underneath! You soemtimes juts have to peel the layers away:)

VI, well...I donæt think there is another! Very good choice...my knees are literally shaking!

A friend of mine was rooting for Finland and he did a little dance when they won. That was some job done on the make-up though.

At 12:00, Blogger Minka said...

Móa, thank you for the tea. the lemon was superb and the buiscuits a delight :)

Jenna, was rooting fo rthem too. Just becuase the brought a new air to Eurovision. One gets tired of Sweden´s Abba songs, and blonde girls with very long legs. The make-up...I think those are just masks, but I am not sure!

I'm glad Eurovision is over. Its just way too upsetting. As I visit my various UK and European friends, I hear a lot of angst. Its kind of funny actually.

I'll always remember Iceland's entry as the 'girl with the eyelashes from hell'
