What is wrong with the world?

My bank changed its name. I had no clue and today when I had to go there I looked for its building and well I couldn´t find it! I was outside and it juts started to snow heavily(oh yes!... 3rd of April and it decides to snow!) After a few curses to the world at large, I looked closer and recognized my bank-lady behind the window. Weird I thought and entered the building.
And behold...it was my bank. New name, new colour and an upset Monika.
You know, I am the kinda girl that when Nutella changed it´s logo on the cover I stopped eating it! I am not so good with change and especially when nobody notifies me about it! I loved my bank, its name left nothing up to the imagination. Iceland´s Bank it was called. Now? Glitnir. You might ask what does that mean! Your guess is as good as mine!
If I weren´t such a habitual being, I´d change to another bank.
The coffee there is still the same muddy brew though!
Glad some things never change :)

hope all your money is intact ;))

The least they could've done is given you a lollipop for your troubles. Jeesh! What kind of bank are they?! ;)

Karma, it seems my money is fine! Oh, soemthing would have burned if it weren´t.

Sar, I second that. A lollipop or a little piggy to safe money in!

Everything keeps changing around here. My bank changed names three times. The phone company changed names four times. Now the gas and electric utility company is changing its name. They even keep changing the names of the streets. Keeps me confused.

I can sympathize. I'm a creature of habit myself.

Wow!!!!Iceland is becoming more like the US when it comes to business.....name changes here in the States is common :)
Nothing would ever stop me from eating Nutella.....although for the sake of my hips.....naw! Nothing....except if they would change the product.
Glitnir sounds like some version of Glit.....glitter, glint etc. I could not find it in my dictionaries or on ordabok.is

Hate it when that happens...new name, new logo, new checks to get used to...new policies...yuk! A bank is like a doctor...once you're comfortable you don't want to change.

Hate to be the one to tell u this... but the bank advertised the change heavily, to say the least. However, I think they should have called u personally, offered u a lollypop and offered to paint ur house. Its the least they could have done! Btw, I'm surprised u didn't know this, u being in there every week picking up ur new card.. ;)

I'm sorry to tell you but I read about the change of the name some days ago.

Hereafter a part of the article I saw online which explains also the new name:

03/13/2006 | 16:56

New Íslandsbanki name borrows from Norse mythology
In a move preceded by days of anticipation in the Icelandic press, and which entailed flying employees from all over the world to Iceland for the weekend, Íslandsbanki announced a new name, logo and new overall brand image at a company meeting on Saturday.

The new name, Glitnir, is drawn from Norse mythology - as a press release from the bank explains,"Glitnir was the home of Forseti, son of the divine pair Baldur and Nanna. Those who came there received a pardon of their misdeeds and all quarrels were settled."

However I can imagine the way you felt. I would be shocked too.

At least normally you get a letter announcing this kind of information.

Next time I will read about some changings in Iceland I will immediately send you an email from Germany :-)

Bless, bless

My favorite Mexican restaurant for the past 25 years is closing and it's snowing in the mountains right above me. I feel your pain.

Ups Monika, it seems we should have known. I didn´t either and I got a shock when I went into my home bank. I liked the old logo, the name.but let's bury this quarrel! Yes I am ON LINE again! Wohw! And hope to stay there now with new connenction and new input and new cable :))

Icy, its tough for a white little doggie to survive in an ever-changing human world. Sometimes I wish I were a dog, then at least I would have a reason to be confused;)

Cube, I think it is a huge international club with oh-so-many members :)

Móa, I just don´t get it. Why would soemthing that has been established and well so, change everything about it?! It is a huge red sign now with Glitnir written in the middle! What kinda logo is that?

Tryggvi, I bet you love to be the one telling me this :) Anyways, with all the stupid news I have to listen to in this country, this one I miss?!

Heike, living in Germany? No opinion! I really should pay more attention when I look through the comic section of the newspaper ;)
And from now on you´ll be my official news agent...you can also send lollipops when some change should affect me personally!

Doug, lets drown our sorrows in Chinese food? We have a Nings seomwhere here!

Yes, we often don't like change; yet change is rapidly becoming a way of life. But since we don't like change, if change should suddenly stop, we might not like that either. That would be change. ;)

I've banked at the same bank for well over 30 years. For the first 25 years, the name of the bank was the same. Since then the name has changed 3 times. They always notify us before it changes however. It's still annoying for some reason.

Douglas: HaHa...poor baby. (On the snow in the mountains. Losing a restaurant is sad though.)

My bank changed it's name after 14 years of me banking there and the other day I ran out of checks and they wanted to charge me FIVE DOLLARS (that's a lot, by the way) per temporary check (they never charged me for temporary checks before they changed the name). I said forget it and took out cash to last until my new checks arrive. arrggh.
I am too one of those creatures of habit.

That's how I felt tonight when I went to watch Amazing Race and found instead CSI Miami. The website offers no insight, only acknowledges the new time. It acts like it's been there all along though. Radio stations also do this all the time. What is up with that?

Minka~ I went and researched Glitnir for you only to find someone beat me to it, that is what I get for being 3-D too much today, the cyberworld passed me by.
I am not a huge fan of change, but Nutella...no, I cannot give THAT up over a logo change.

Ah you guys, it is so good to have other cratures of habit commenting here. I mean, I am 28 and have survived the ever-changing world so far quite well. BUt once in a while I would like to be personally informed when my bank changes its name. For crying out loud, they have all my money, I pay them for their services and other stuff. I am quite a good customer...so with all the bills they send me, couldn´t there be a tiny letter saying: "You owe us... but here is some news, we are changing our name and hope you continue to be a customer of ours." Nope! They just assumed and transferred all my money. Outrageous!
But I did get a little piggy this morning :) You know the kinda where you can put money in! It´s kinda cute, the lady gave it to me after I played my Damsel-in-distress "I couldn´t find your building, ´cause all is changed" card and I guess she felt sorry for me. I am apeaced now and the little piggy has 250 KR in its tummy!

It's a funny thing about pigs, Monika. I've noticed the ones in the sty are insatiable while the one on my shelf gets by on very little.

banks here are forever buying out each other and remaking themselves over with new names, logos, colors and facades. It does get confusing.

At least the people are the same! A whole change of personnel would devastate me! I just found out that the girls who wax me are leaving... *sigh* not good! I feel your pain too my sistah!

PS~ I fixed your Belle of the Brawl button and Waking Ambrose button... they were not showing up here or at my place either...

I have also figured out how to make a drop down menu... do you want me to put one in for your Archives so it is neater and tidier! You have such a long list! Let me know and I will tweak away!

At 19:50, Blogger Minka said...

Doug, well I´ll make my pig fat and with it I will buy teh bank and change its name back!!!

3D, I understand that in America...but in Iceland with like 300.000 people. Nobody gives a rat´s a** and people are confused...Just weird!
Soemone told me today that former Iceland´s bank is going international to Canada and China. Nobody in those countries will know what Glitnir means and the Chinese won´t be able to pronounce it in the first place :)

MIZ B: you are a mind reader. I hate my archive. But I don´t know how to make it tidier without losing the posts. Blogger only lets me archive monthly and there are no other options. Youa re welcome to tweak away and thanx for fixing the buttons...it was very annoying not to be able to see them.

Keith, don´t you get some hot coffee when you go to your bank? It is early morning you have some business at the bank, but there are people waiting in line so you grap a cup of coffee, sit down at a computer and wait your turn in comfort! NO?

Snav...this was my first :) I hope I will have better adapted when the second name change arrives :)
