If only...
guys had such an eloquent way of pushing their intentions :)
Happy Valentine´s Day, everybody!
To His Coy Mistress

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love's day;
Thou by the Indian Ganges' side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the Flood;
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.
But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv'd virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.
The grave's a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.
Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

did she say yes?
Mom
FOR SHE IS THE LIGHT
THAT WHICH I UNKNOWINGLY SEEK
TO GUIDE ME ON MY JOURNEY
SO WE MAY... ONE DAY
JOIN OUR SOLES
AND WALK HAND IN HAND
TO SHARE WHAT LIES BEYOND
TOGETHER...
That's another Gary Poem. I think
I need some Tums, I feel a little queazy!! Were sometimes a little dense and need a little nudge in the right direction that's all!! I have heard that baseball bats have also seen some success.
Gary
Mom, well after that speech I sure hope she threw caution to the wind and to let their "willing soul transpires,
At every pore with instant fires" :)
He had me at Hello! ;)
Gary, I think somebody already gave you the little nudge in teh right direction;) I sure hope this poem is not going to waste tomorrow and melt some heart. Good luck!
Well, Happy Valentine's Day to you, Monika!
may all the guys do the guy thing and shower you with red roses and heart-shaped chocolates, sweetie ... have a great Valentine's Day!
xxx
I prefer Ogden Nash's take on love.
Come live with me and be my love
And we will all the pleasures prove
Of a marriage conducted with economy
In the 20th Century Anno Domony.
We'll live in a dear little walk-up flat
With practically room to swing a cat
And a potted cactus to give it hauteur
And a bathtub equipped with dark brown water.
We'll eat, without undue discouragement,
Foods low in cost but high in nourishment
And quaff with pleasure, while chatting wittily,
The peculiar wine of Little Italy.
We'll remind each other it's smart to be thrifty
And buy our clothes for something-fifty.
We'll bus for miles on holidays
For seats at depressing matinees,
And every Sunday we'll have a lark
And take a walk in Central Park.
And one of these days not too remote
You'll probably up and cut my throat.
Happy Valentine to you.
Hey! Where did my comment go? I was even first!
Monika, are you censoring me?
:(
I must look into this Ogden Nash guy, he sounds brilliant (assuming its a he). Happy Valentine´s day Monika, have good one.
Fred, and a Happy Valentine´s Day to you!
karma, yes...I am encouraging that!
Logo, now see: this one I never encountered in all my literature studies. Tank you for bringing it to my attention!
Tom&Icy, an extra can of dog food for the both of you, woof!
Sar, I did nothing to your comment. Promise! Censoring on my blog only happens when religious groups arrive and try to sell my soul to GOD!
Tryggvi, to you too! I´ll be watching a re-run of the Olympic figur-sakting as a treat for this day!
That's the line of someone who thinks he does have world enough, and time.
This is why I should read the comments. Logo, I love "Love under the Democrats (or Republicans)
Johnboy, congrats on your new blog.
Doug...that is why he says: "IF"...but since we don´t, let´s do the fun thing rigth now!"
Pretty much the gist of things!
Monika, it could be worse ;-)
(Just wanted to prepare you for my Valentine post...)
Have a happy, happy day... not just today though... everyday!
Lovin' my sistah very mucho!
monika, I'm sorry that I shocked you. I hoped that by warning you first it would be easier. Try to remember all the beautiful things I post too.
Well nevermind my previous comment then. Out with the old, in with the new, right?
Happy Valentine's Day Monika! Lots of lovin, chocolate treats, and beautiful flowers from your virtual sister in America.
xoxo
Monika, I just mean he took an awful long while saying it. I'm convinced, I'm just not convinced he's convinced.
Cube...somethings are just to horrible to look at, even with a warning. Nevertheless, I thought it was a very funny Valentine´s picture.
Sar, and all possible treats may come your way. Tell the hubby that I think a massage and candles are in order!
Doug, I see! I was sure, that he was sure and only wanted to assure her. But now I am more sure that your certainty is more convincing :)
Happy Valentines Day, Monika. Too often, us guys just don't have enough words to be so expressive; though if we work hard at it, we can reach towards it. :)
Happy Valentine's Day! Your blog just looks so cool now...
Happy Valentine's to the Ice Queen!!
I know I'm late... but Happy Valentine's Day Monika! Hope you had a nice one!
AP3, yes it does, doesn´t it? I am very pleased!
Deann, I hop eyou had a nice day too!
asiansmiles, there is no closing time here, youc an never be too late. My comment section is always open for communication!:)
Just stopped by to say hiya Sis! *hugs*
you know, if you were to translate this into modern english, it would read like the lyrics to a modern "sensitive" rock song - one that parents would not like too much.
