Thursday Brain Teaser 2

Man´s best friends...

Most of us have them, love them and adore them...some of us believe they can understand, speak or write posts on blogs for that matter:) I am talking about animals, of course. But how much do we really know about them? Here is a little quiz about animal noises. I know you all know your meows and woofs, but how about these?

So what you guys have to do: name the five animals and the sound they make! You pick one animal and post your answer in the comment section. The next blogger has to pick another, not yet identified one and try his luck. Meanwhile I will tell you if you are right and if not, the animal is still up for grabs. Hope you guys have fun and try not to google too much;)!

p.s If some people turn out to be overzealous -yeah that is you Pascover- you might just pick an animal and tell us something interesting about them!

Well, the hippopotamus says "Blaaah"
And the woodpecker says "tatatatatatatat"
And the swan swan says "aaaaa"
And the giraffe says "Brrrrr"
And the turtle says "Hey, slow down, it's only Wednesday!!!"

Doug...off you go delete this post..NOW! And it is 00:15 my time, you Naseweiss!

At 00:17, Blogger Minka said...

That was a very funny comment though :) Were the sounds from a dog´s perspective?

At 01:10, Blogger Doug The Una said...

Hahaha, that's Spitzbub to you, Mädchen! Were the instructions complete? I didn't catch I was only supposed to answer one. I'm stickin' with the turtle.

At 01:19, Blogger Sar said...

Okay, consider my brain offically teased. I'm confused! Do I pick any one of your 5 animals and name just one sound it makes? Otherwise, I'm ready to play!

At 01:40, Blogger Minka said...

Yeah sar, just pick any animla you like and tell me the sound, or one of the sounds it makes!

At 01:54, Blogger Sar said...

Okay, gotcha. Here goes...

A giraffe hisses.

At 07:29, Blogger Biene said...

This looks like a singing swan, so he probably will sing. Other kinds of svans make this really terrible noise I couldn´t even describe. Shrieking? Get a hundred of them on the river by your summerhouse and you will know what I mean.

Hmmm...this is more difficult than I thought...
To have this really clear: Any animal is attributed with a particular sound, like dogs are said to say woof, cats meow...although they make many more sounds these are the ones I am looking for:)
Sar, although the giraffe can hiss of some sort that is not the animal noise she is attributed with...wanna try again?
I realize this is much harder than I thought, sorry you guys...but you are all that smart that it takes something to pick your brain!
Mom, you might wanna use sar´s word for your animal ;)

I would normally research it all to death and WIN... WIN I SAY!

But alas, this bohemian has been on her feet for 11 hours straight and the in-laws are on the way home so she only had time for this: (yes, I googled! I am hoping you will shoot me so I can get some REST!):

The idea that giraffes are mute is a myth. Though normally silent, calves bleat and make a mewing call, cows seeking lost calves bellow, and courting bulls may emit a raucous cough. Giraffes also give alarm snorts, and moaning, snoring hissing, and flutelike sounds have been reported.

Why am I still up? Shoot me, SHOOT ME I SAY!

At 18:31, Blogger Minka said...

Well done miz bohemia, I knew you´d come and safe the day: giraffes are associated with bleats and grunting noises. Giraffe is of the charts, now try the other ones you guys!

Monika, lovie, my brain hurts cause I really ain't that smart! I have you all fooled because I stayed at a Holiday Inn once (do you get those commercials in Iceland - if you don't that must sound awfully strange to you).

At 20:59, Blogger Minka said...

Sar, that sounds like I would say to you: DV kinda sucks!

So, you mean a swan "hissss"es? You ever heard a svan go "Hsssss"? Not me :(
But, as I said, by our river there is this great swan meeting in the autumn before they fly south. And is there not a chattering and bowing and exchange of news going on, but "hssssssss"?

A hippo sounds like a pig. Really.

Did someone already take the hippo?

At 22:40, Blogger Minka said...

Nope TLP, Doug tried though :)
The hippo is said to bray! Hey it is your language after all ;)

At 22:49, Blogger dddragon said...

Crows say "caw"
Turtles "hiss"
Hippos "grunt"
Swans "honk"

At 22:55, Blogger Minka said...

3D, thank you for trying so hard.
The bird is a magpie, people!
Swans are said to crey, hiss or grunt. A tortoise is said to grunt as well!

This was not a very successful Thursday Trivia :( My apologies and kudos to everybody that tried :)

At 02:27, Blogger Sar said...

No, no, it's not the tortoise whose know to grunt. It's a Sar that's know to grunt when she's told "TV Kinda Sucks". *Grunt*!

Ah, just kidding. This was still fun even though I was clearly not smart enough for it! ;) I think you should keep going with your Thursday Brain Teaser theme. For what it's worth, I thought last week's when you requested we provide answers in hint form was pretty clever and fun.

At 02:29, Blogger Biene said...

Honk for the swan sounds nice to my ears!

At 02:30, Blogger Sar said...

Yeah, that would be known to grunt.

At 03:05, Blogger Fred said...

Make sure to give me all the answers from the students, Monika. I'll grade them for you.

At 03:42, Blogger Lila said...

I have NO clue! You win!

I like all the guesses, though.

When I was 4 years old a Swan nearly killed me at the Tjorninn in Reykjavik......my father picked me up by my pants and saved my life...seems it was protecting a nest.....the sound was a scream hard to describe, but one that is indelible in my mind. Nice games, they are fun....did you say mandla real fast for last weeks game?

At 14:44, Blogger Minka said...

ahhh..you guys!
Thanks for palying along :)
Auntie Móa, I tried three times and failed misserable :) I always feed the Swans there, never saw them vicous. But next time I am going with kids, I´ll be more careful!
Interesting fact...swans mate for life!
And teh magpie chatters!!!

At 20:29, Blogger dddragon said...

No, your quiz isn't a failure - it's us that is the failure! lol, who'da thought that we would do so poorly?
