My new Cds

My new Cds

Music is so important. Last weekend I bought 4 Cds. It was time.
I don´t know if you can see but they are:
James Blunt, Green Day, Katie Melua and REM.
There is nothing like being alone at home, jumping in the air and believing you have great stage talents.
Or when you feel blue, put a soft CD on and listen to people sing about what you feel inside. You get the feeling that somebody out there understands and has felt the same.
Music is also a little like a time machine. It can evoke memories, feelings and faces so easily.
I enjoy these moments, with just me and the sound I choose.

Quick question: What is the best album you have ever bought, and which one would you´ve liked to return immediately after listening to it?

Me too, and I always liked REM. Don't know the others.

Doug, you don´t know the song "You are beautiful" by James Blunt?! Well, you should listen to it, just becasue I say so ;) I am sure you´d enjoy it.
Green Day you probably ignore, ´cause they named their new album "American Idiot" !?
Katie Melua is not everybody´s cup of tea.
I love REM and have done so for a long time, glad you agree :)

Well, I don't think I should ignore an album named after me, but I'll look for the Blunt song. Because you say so.

Well, I'm fickle about music. I'll play the same thing over and over until I'm sick of it. So can't say what the very best album is. But I'm happy with all my Beatles stuff still, and Simon and Garfunkel. I'm almost always disappointed in "collections." Like Casey Kasem's collections of different year's hits.
'Course this is all OLD stuff.

Lately I've been happy with music from movies or Broadway shows that I've seen and bought on CD.

Jeez was that question up there the whole time?

Probably Van Morrison's Astral Weeks is my favorite album I've bought or else Taj Mahal's De Ole Folks at Home/Giant Step.

I think the ones that I wanted to return caked in blood would be either Emmylou Harris' Stumble Into Grace or Springsteen's The Rising. In the latter case I should have known that anything inspired by 9/11 would be tawdry.

Dunno really. I'm extremely happy with my latest purchase of Hjálmar (both are brilliant). However, there are many over the years that I've wanted to throw away immidiately. Once, in a moment of madness, I bought The Best of Barry White. What in the world was I thinking?

TLP, I bought the Cd from the movie Runaway Bride, probably becasue I was 16. I can actually still listen to it occasionally. I also bought the Cd from the movie "Oh brother where art thou?" and I just love it.
My favourite Cd is probably the one I got in Portugal by a group called Silence 4.
The one I should have returned but never did??? I think that would have to be "Laundry Service" by Shakira. One or two good songs.
Doug, don´t fret...the question wasn´t up there right away, I sneeked it in afterwards :)
Tryggvi, yeah I saw that CD of Barry White and wondered a little why you wouldl have that. But than again you actually told me that you like one song by Monika´s formerly teenage favourite boy-band...so I wasn´t all that concerned anymore:)

I know it sounds cliche' but I'd have top go with "Dark Side of the Moon" as the best ALBUM. It is just musically so tight. It was the only Pink Floyd with Aloan Parsons as the producer.

But I haven't listened to it that much. I am very moved by Sting's "All This Time" which was recorded on September 11th, 2001. The pain of that day can be heard in the music.

As for the one I dopn't care for... well, I really don't know because I don't listen to them if I don't like them. I have over 300 CD and 100 LPs so I really don't think much about those that aren't so good.

I just picked up George Harrison's "All things Must Pass" and it is fun to walk down memory lane.

CS...I just realized I am not fortunate enough to own a Pink Floyd CD and I really don´t know why that is. I guess I was occupied with Take That at the time ;)
But they sure are on my shopping list.

Oh, man. Pink Floyd. I have a half dozen of the album covers from my old Floyd records framed and on the walls.

Doug, well it is more decorative than just another brick in the wall, I guess ;)

Damien Rice's O I suppose, although Sigurrós' Ágætis byrjun, U2's Joshua Tree, Morphine's Cure for Pain and Gary Jules' Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets are all pretty close. The one I want to return is the Birgitta cd I didn't actually buy but got free while grocery shopping in 10-11. I couldn't possibly say no to a free cd even when it's one I didn't really want and since I don't know any thirteen year old girls I don't have anybody to give it to. And cds by law are just one of those things you don't throw into to the trash ...

Sehr lüstig, fräulein.

ÁSGEIR, half of the names you just mentioned, I have never heard of. I do love the Sigurrós one though...very much. That you have a Birgitta Cd made me smile :)
Doug, hey come on! I thought that was quite witty, or wisecracking at least. I think we should ask TLP!

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was complimenting your wit and humor. I guess I'd better stick to Englisch.

I deem it WIT. And Funny. Even I got it. I don’t need no education for that. And we don't need no dark sarcasm in the classroom either Doug.

Bjössi, hi and welcome back.
Doug, I guess the German in me questioned that statement, but I am glad you liked it.
TLP, thank you for agreeing with both of us. It appears we don´t need any thought or teacher´s control, to be witty.

Best album: Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell.

Worst Album: Bruce Sprinsgteen's Nebraska. (And I love Bruce, too!)

At 19:53, Blogger Minka said...

Fred, I had a Meatloaf time as well. I loved many of his songs, quite forgot about him though...until now. That is an album I might consider buying!

At 01:31, Blogger Doug The Una said...

Fred, Nebraska one of the best Rock albums ever!!! So is Bat out of Hell.

At 19:04, Blogger Fred said...

Doug - I have most of Bruce's stuff; Nebraska was such a downer for me. Johnny 99 was probably the song that did it for me. The lyrics are terrible.

My favorite Sprinsteen album is Tracks, which is a box set that has many unreleased songs.

At 03:52, Blogger Doug The Una said...

That's funny, Fred. I loved Nebraska with the exception of Johnny 99. Although I appreciate any song that works Tanqueray and Lime into the lyrics. What were the odds?

ah...look at the two of you!
Wish I could join, but I just understand Bahnhof...so I´ll leave you to it! :)
If you are ever in need of David Hasselhoff titles...I can help you out though ;)
